Author's Notes: When asked to write this--I really had to go 'hmmm' to answer the questions: Why had I written this particular tale? The answer was thus: I hadn't intended to.
This story was supposed to be a dark and gritty murder mystery, where in the end, Jono and Angelo had to decide the fate of a viscious killer--or let Marrow play judge, jury, and executioner. Obviously, that is not what you're going to find here. The story turned out having a far more spiritual bent, as I find the Morlocks positively fascinating.. though I mourn what happened to them. I was also looking for a way to express my own dissapppointment and sorrow at thier passing and the crude way they'd been handled since by Marvel.. from turning them into hunter-killer to stripping Marrow of any and all value of a character by breaking her down and making her a loyal, pretty-pretty team player.
This story turned from gritty life decisions to life-exploration. Hardened, hate-filled Marrow, streetwise, bitter Angelo, and hopelessly middle class yet trying to be a 'bad boy', Jonothon... all came in a potent mix. They wrote themselves throughout this story, really, as did Callisto. I never intended on making her a part of the cast of Second Chances, like I did with Hank and Cecilia in 'The Distance Between Hearts', but she inserted herself into the mix, and I'm pleased at the results.
Of course, here's a rousing chuckle for decisions not made. This story wouldn't have been possible if a friend of mine hadn't talked me out of bringing Marrow and Maggott to the team...;)
Anyway, if this tale catches your eye, hop on over to my page. http://www.enteract.com/~mlever is where I keep all of my Second Chances fics. If you enjoy this, maybe you'll enjoy the ones that come before and after it...
