Timber

Free of spirit, body and soul
To her heart there was no key,
Captured by nothing, nothing at all
I wonder even by me.

In her veins ran the ultimate symbol
Of triumph over time,
Her beauty was a picture
Of the perfect design.

Her eyes held the ghost of ancestors
That roamed before,
Strength, courage and grace
She was to the core.

High upon a mountain
She now stands so regally,
A wisp of wind, she fades away
But not from my memory.

For my sister Debra
In memory of Timber
By Shay Tankersley

Did you hear him?
Listen...
I hear an Angel deep off in the brush....
Howling at the moon...
The Wolf...
Did you ever think...
Of the Wolf as an Angel?
God sends Angels of every form...
Protecting all that lives...
And the Wolf...
He is an Angel too....
Standing tall and stern upon the rocky cliff...
Singing with his roaring voice...
To the Heavens...
Making a call....
To God...
This Wolf...
He is an Angel...
Do not fear him...
Listen to the beast speak...
Frightening...
Alarming...
But tame in spirit...
Fighting to survive...
Among all that threatens his being...
No harm to you...
No harm to me...
The Wolf.....fighting to be set free...

Lady Life
On a dark afternoon I remain calm,
Soft but subtle is the touch of my voice.
Deep and powerful is my goodness,
"For I am the Lady Beast"
Simple in my name,
I have faced life as no one will.
I am Hope, Strength and Freedom.
On a gloomy day all I see is Tomorrow...
I am the Power, the Light and the Thunder...
My stare is unique to only those who have been touched by me.
I guard my deepest thoughts and feelings,
My insides want to scream out,
But my composure won't let me.
For I am the Mistress of Faith,
My destiny will by all means be
Bright...

The Healing From Within

With heavy heart she walks alone
to where the earth touches the sky.
The pain thats deep within burns
and she sit's alone and cries.
She calls upon the Spirits to ask them what went wrong.
They answer her through natures voice...
The Wolf's soothing song...

As she sits beside the waterfall
the cool mist touches her face
The Wolfpack gathers around her
In this quiet and peaceful place.
As they sit beside her
she looks deep into their eyes
And as their Spirits link together
She hears the voices of the wise.
They tell her of a new love,
Who will cause a healing from within,
And their souls will join as one
Then she will live in happiness once again

This part is for those of us that have been or are being abused...
Please know that you can escape and survive...
Me and my son have...
There is help for you out there but YOU must be willing to take that first step to
FREEDOM...

Silently padding thru the moonlit forest,
I approach ever so cautiously...
Hidden by the dense brush,
Two eyes, reflected by the moons white light, are seen...
Watching...
Waiting...
Maintaining my distance,
Near yet far enough for me to escape...
I wonder will he beckon me
With acceptance or maim me
With glaring indifference or ridicle...
I live within my fears,
Manifested by ferocity...
Hesitation...
and solitude...
Until the icy hardness has enveloped me, Frozen in time...
Feeling a whispering chill...
He looks up and sees nothing...
While I watch in the shadows...

At some point in your life You may of heard the inner call...
I have...
Some call it the "Wild or Wolf Woman within"

She seeks to be heard...
To break the chains that bind her...
So that she may run free...
...in the darkest of nights,
her Wolf Spirit shines bright...
...listen with your heart...
you shall be blessed with her song...
the song of the Wolf...
the song of...
FREEDOM...

This is another poem written for me by my sister Marlene...

ESCAPE TO WILD FREEDOM

Deep within her inner self
There's a place she can go,
Where the savage beast can not reach her,
and her spirit is free to grow.
Her body bruised and battered,
From her mates hard and heavy hand,
She escapes to wild freedom
Like a shewolf free to roam the land
She'll run in quiet solitude
to where the mountains reach the sky,
She'll rest and breathe a whoafulsigh,
All her strength and all her courage
has helped her to break away
and has led her to a peaceful place
Where forever she will stay

A Wolf like the Woman,
Cannot be owned...
But...
If you earn our trust,
We will give you the greatest
gift of all..
Total submission of our Wild Soul...

If you talk to the animals,
they will know you and you will know each other...
If you do not talk to them
you will not know them...
What you do not know you fear
What one fears they

Below is another piece of beautifully written words
That was written by Sacred Wolf Dreams
Please you will find her Banner on here PLEASE visit her site...You won't regret it!!!

Today, the wolf represents all that which is wild and free.
They call us to the last retreats
of our vanishing wilderness,
where their songs carry on the wind,
a wild defiant sorrow.
Roaming where few men dare,
wolves pierce the silence with their powerful song.
The howl begins low and melodious.

The sound is lonely, haunting, surreal;
as if the voices of our ancestors
were howling through the canyons.
Soon, the ridges resound with the chorus
of a wolf pack on the prowl.
Then, as the last note descends,
it is quiet, as the winds whisper
like spirits of ancient times.
Remember that sound and treasure it.
It is as old as time, wild as the wind
and as poetic as moonlight on snow.
It is the trademark of the wolf.

SacredWolfDreams

As the sun drops below the horizons
of this vast and beautiful land...
A Ladywolf appears accompanied by her cub...
They stand silently watching the man
ascend the pass
She stands motionless
Her gaze solid and unwavering
Her eyes show no cunning
They show the coldness of the heavy hand
They are the window to her soul
They show a little Darkness and Light
A little Wisdom and Foolishness
A little Love and Hate
A little Happiness and Sorrow
They also show a deep and
growing strength that
is honest and solid
She turns and pads gracefully away...
Her brothers and sisters can be heard
raising their voices to the
Glory of the
Great Spirit...

"When the Earth is sick,
the animals will begin to disappear, when that happens,
The Warriors of the Rainbow will come to save them."
From Chief Joseph, Nez Perces'

"We must protect the forests for our children,
grandchildren and children yet to be born.
We must protect the forests for those who can't speak for themselves such as the birds, animals, fish and trees."
Wintu Woman, 19th Century

"When we Indians kill meat, we eat it all up.
When we dig roots, we make little holes.
When we build houses, we make little holes.
When we burn grass for grasshoppers, we don't ruin things.
We shake down acorns and pine nuts.
We don't chop down the trees.
We only use dead wood.
But the white people plow up the ground, pull down the trees, kill everything. ...
the White people pay no attention.
...How can the spirit of the earth like the White man?
... everywhere the White man has touched it, it is sour."
"Treat the earth well:
it was not given to you by your parents,
it was loaned to you by your children.
We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children."
Ancient Indian Proverb
by Mitakuye Oyasin

A recent study shows that people who are cruel to animals tend to be cruel to other people.
As with so many studies that cost money, this one reached conclusions that are obvious.
Respect for life doesn't come in categories or degrees.
It either is or it isn't.

Native Americans have always believed that the Great Spirit placed a piece of himself within all living things.
As Chief Luther Standing Bear, a Teton Sioux, puts it,
"From Wakan Tanka, the Great Spirit, there came a great unifying life force that flowed
In and through all things
the flowers of the plains,
blowing winds,
rocks, trees, birds, animals
and was the same force that had been breathed into the first man.
Thus all things were kindred and were brought together by the same Great Mystery."

Standing Bear continues:
"Kinship with all creatures of the earth,
sky and water was a real and active principle.
In the animal and bird world there existed a brotherly feeling that kept the Lakota safe among them.
And so close did some of the Lakotas come to their feathered and furred friends
that in true brotherhood they spoke a common tongue."

As Standing Bear puts it,
"The animals had rights the right of man's protection,
the right to live, the right to multiply, the right to freedom
and the right to man's indebtedness
and in recognition of these rights the Lakota never
enslaved an animal and spared all life that was not needed for food and clothing.

"This concept of life and its relations was humanizing,
and gave to the Lakota an abiding love.
It filled his being with the joy and mystery of living;
it gave him reverence for all life;
it made a place for all things in the scheme of
existence with equal importance to all."

I wanted to give something of my past to my grandson.
So I took him into the woods, to a quiet spot.
Seated at my feet he listened as I told him
of the powers that were given to each creature.
He moved not a muscle as I explained
how the woods had always provided us
with food, homes, comfort, and religion.
He was awed when I related to him
how the wolf became our guardian,
and when I told him that I would sing
the sacred wolf song over him, he was overjoyed.

In my song, I appealed to the wolf
to come and preside over us
while I would perform the wolf ceremony
so that the bondage between my grandson
and the wolf would be lifelong.
I sang.
In my voice was the hope that clings to every heartbeat.
I sang.
In my words were the powers I inherited from my forefathers.
I sang.
In my cupped hands lay a spruce seed-- the link to creation.
I sang.
In my eyes sparkled love.
I sang.
And the song floated on the sun's rays from tree to tree.
When I had ended,
it was if the whole world listened with us
to hear the wolf We waited a long time but none came.
Again I sang,
humbly but as invitingly as I could,
until my throat ached and my voice gave out.
All of a sudden
I realized why no wolves
had heard my sacred song.
There were none left!
My heart filled with tears.
I could no longer give my
grandson faith in the past, our past.

At last I could whisper to him:
" It is finished!"
"Can I go home now?" He asked,
checking his watch to see if he
would still be in time to
catch his favorite program on TV.
I watched him disappear and wept in silence.
All is finished!

The Sioux indian name for wolf is "shunk manitu tanka"
which means animal that looks like a dog but is a powerful spirit.

If all the beasts were gone,
man would die from
a great loneliness of the spirit.
For whatever happens to the beasts
soon happens to man.
