Indigo Girls

Amy Ray and Emily Saliers make up the Indigo Girls. They grew up in Decatur, Georgia, and both are talented musicians.

Amy and Emily went to Laurel Ridge Elementary School together. After high school, each went off to college. Amy majored in English and religion, and Emily majored in English. In 1984, they met again at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. They formed the Indigo Girls.

Both Amy and Emily are lesbians and say they have never been with each other.

Their self-titled debut album was released on February 24, 1989. It contained ten tracks which included the hit, "Closer to Fine."

They later released Nomads . Indians . Saints on September 21, 1990. Another album, Rites of Passage, was released on May 8, 1992. Swamp Ophelia was released on May 6, 1994.

Shaming of the Sun was released April 29, 1997. It contains the hit, "Shame on You."

The Indigo Girls are have played a significant part at Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair. During Lilith's first year, McLachlan said that no one was socializing and things were not going well. However, that all changed when the Indigo Girls came and livened everything up!
