The Texas Township Fire Explorer post was started 6 years ago by firefighter and advisor Stacy French. There are 5 regular members right now. We are always looking for additional explorers. So if you live in the area or just have a question drop us a line at TTFDFIRE11@aol.com or TTFD_E2@hotmail.com After the Explorers have been individually rated by the advisors they are allowed to attend Monday night training with the fire fighters and some get to carry pagers so they can respond when Texas is toned out. On a typical explorer meeting we will start out by doing practical training which ranges from patient survey to Search & Rescue. Usually the Explorer officers will help "test" the other explorers. After the practical we will talk about what we did and how to do better next time. For our medical training we will have an explorer officer be the patient and let the other explorers show the patient survey or C-spine or backboarding or various other techniques of a rescue. The goal by training like this is to basically get the explorers ready to get on the department and know exactly what they are doing. Josh Wesaw is back now and is continuing his Fire Science classes at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Brian Bell is attending Hope College in Holland, Mi. He is also driving a wheelchair unit for LIFE EMS inc. Brent Reeves is a Firefighter with Pavilion Twp Fire Department. Mike Miller is currently on Texas as a Firefighter/EMT and is in the Fire Academy to get his Firefighter I & II certification.
