June 30th

NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE DAY

The former Michigan Magazine arts and crafts expo held the last full weekend in June eventually evolved in to Red Hatter Fun Day then into FUN DAZE, and in 2011, it culminated in a major event for Native Americans who gathered for the opening of the Tribal Rolls, including the Durant Rolls. Bringing Native Americans together from the Ojibway, Ottawa, Cherokee and Potawatomi nations for an ancestry search was the first of it's kind in Michigan, and the museum was pleased to host this multinational event.

We anticipate a similar gathering in 2012.

Regular exhibitors like Vern and Ann Aitson withe Great Plains tepee, and Don and Velva Emer with the Black Ash baskets will be invited to attend, as well as, other Native Americans who want to get acquaintd, search the rolls and display their art and craft work.

June 30th 2012 has been set as a gathering of the tribes once more.

We thank Tim sutter, Albert Maxwell, Tomar Bruning of Hawks, and Jim and Susan Giessel of Waters, as well as, Victor Visnow from Detour for organizing the opening of the tribal rolls.

Stay tuned for details!

More museum events including our CIVIL WAR ENCAMPMENT AND BIGFOOT BASH agendas will be listed soon please return.
