I remember...........

Hello,

I saw your website as I was looking for pictures of the area I grew up in Michigan. I now live in California but lived 22 wonderful years in Gagetown, Michigan. My parents still live there, happily tending to the animals and the garden. Apparently it has become quite the happening spot for friends, family and fellow church members. Each year my parents host the annual Fun Fest for their church. I still lived there when it started and I understand it's popularity has grown considerably!

You asked for people to send in memories of Michigan, so I thought I'd jot some down. As fall approaches I always think about the brilliant fall colors I would see whenever we would drive into Unionville. Or hearing the rain come closer and closer as it fell on the fields of corn. On a clear day, you can turn in any direction and see for miles and awe at every star you see against the black of night. Though most do not believe me when I say that Michigan is the only place where you can hear the snow fall.

I had many friends and playmates on our little farm...most being our animals of course. Our goat, Big Mama, always followed me around, protecting me from the nasty old rooster named Henry. Then there was Rascal, with his love for M&M's, ice cream and toes. He always thought he was so sneaky with that little black mask of a face and the bushy tail that bounced around letting you know he was into some kind of trouble.

Of course the most important memories are of my family. Listening to polkas every Sunday after church. Taking Sunday drives and having the best treat ever stopping at the Big Boy in Caro. Sitting on the porch with Dad, listening to the rain fall and baking cookies with Mom at Christmas.

I love living in California...but Michigan is where it all started. It is where I was born and where my roots will forever be.

Thank you for the opportunity to reflect and share some wonderful memories.

God's Blessings,

Kristin E. Gaeth

Editors note: Dear Kristin, how beautiful! You brought a tear to this guys eye! Thank you for sharing. I also spent some time in California (Whittier) with my family when I was very young. Although I'll have many fond memories of that wonderful state I was ready to return home to Michigan...nothing can beat a white Christmas!.....You know you're so right when you say you can hear the snow fall. There are times in rural Michigan when the silence is soooo complete...you hear absolutely nothing.....total solitude.........

If any one else would like to share special Michigan Memories

.....we're waiting!

God Bless Barry
