It was 30 years without a fair then a new enthusiastic movement brought it back from the brink of extinction to one of the state's most impressive county fairs!   • Barry traveled to Mackinaw Island and a visit with producer David Gurnee author of A LOVE OF TIME, a romantic novel set on the island.     Howard Shelley was known as Mr. Ourdoorsman while working with the late Mort Neff on the Michigan Outdoors television series.

  • Then Barry took us back to the first interview he conducted with the Monks of the Society of St. John back in the early 90s. In this visit we see how far the founding men have come since their humbling beginnings that has resulted in a beautiful monastery on the shores of Lake Superior in the Keweenaw peninsula.

  • Then Dell visited with Walt Kline, teacher at MERIDIAN Jr. High School in SANFORD, Michigan. We visit with Mr. Kline and his students as they complete the building of a plywood canoe in a program dedicated to introducing students to life long learning skills. Mr. Kline’s class gives students the chance to experience and test their abilities at new concepts and practices.

  • Barry traveled to FREEMONT near GRAND RAPIDS to visit mouth stick artist Will Pardee. Will was left a quadriplegic after a tragic swimming accident a few years back. With faith and the help of his family and friends (especially is wife) Will has become a nationally known sketch artist utilizing his mouth as some one would use their hands.

  • Then we traveled behind the scenes with Dell as we feature some very unique stories we’ve encountered while filming “other” Michigan Magazine segments. Highlights include a trip below the Big Mac bridge into the depths of one of the huge “anchor piers” …A visit with Coast Guard Auxiliary members while filming the PWC Grand Tour… and a talk with a veteran World War II Air Corp combat photographer.

Barbara has authored the book Finding the Way. The wonderful piece of fiction tells of hardships in growing up in a large Amish family and how it created a bond between best friends. Barbara tells how her writing was drawn from first hand experience, living in the Amish community most of her life, the youngest of a large family.
