Beginning February 15th, those living in Japan and wishing to purchase both a new Toyota and Dreamcast simultaneously are in luck. About 160 of the 430 Toyota showrooms in Japan will be selling the Dreamcast, as well as peripheral equipment and software for the system.
The first thing that may come to mind when reading a story like this is, "Why?" The most obvious reason is to attract people into the showrooms. More importantly for Toyota, however, is Dreamcast's Internet capability, which will allow buyers to access Toyota's various websites. Through these sites, Toyota owners can receive information about new and used cars, trade-in prices, and make appointments for inspections and repairs.
A Toyota spokesman said that there may be an increase in the number of dealers selling Dreamcasts in the future, but as it is, 50,000 units are expected to be sold through Toyota this year.
