Compile and Sega have started showing off their next puzzle game for the Dreamcast, called Puyo Puyo 4. For the handful of people that bought Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine for the Genesis or Kirby's Avalanche for the SNES, this game is merely a sequel to those. Players attempt to connect four beans of the same color together and make them disappear. Then the beans above the ones that disappeared fall down, potentially causing another chain reaction. These chain reactions have an offensive purpose as well, damaging your opponent. Players compete until there is no room left on the board for beans, at which time, he or she loses.
Addicts of this game will be pleased to learn that Sega has incorporated four-player action, as well as internet compatibility. A special mode, with an extra large playing field, is also available for practice. Here are a couple of pictures of Puyo Puyo 4, set to come out in Japan soon. No word has been mentioned of a possible U.S. release.
