Hasbro and NASCAR Sign Deal

02.08.99
Hasbro Interactive, recent publishers of Frogger, Risk, and Life, announced it signed a non-exclusive agreement with NASCAR to develop family and children's software for all platforms. Although console-specific titles were not mentioned, the license covers all existing consoles, including PlayStation and Nintendo 64. Because this agreement is not exclusive, Electronic Arts will continue to use the NASCAR license as well. Electronic Arts was contacted about this turn of events and had little to say, except that it knew it was going to happen. We also asked EA how much longer its current licensing agreement with NASCAR will last, but no comment was made.

"We are thrilled with the opportunity to partner with such a flourishing organization as NASCAR," said Tom Dusenberry, president of Hasbro Interactive. "Hasbro Interactive prides itself in delivering the best in family and children's software, and with our broad-based approach we feel we can offer racing enthusiasts of all ages a new way to experience the sport they love."

George Pyne, NASCAR vice president of marketing, said, "Working with Hasbro Interactive will enable NASCAR to expand its reach in the interactive entertainment market. The new gaming titles will allow the excitement of NASCAR to be shared across generations and will provide the thrill of racing to our youngest fans."

So keep your eyes peeled NASCAR nuts, and hope for some new NASCAR games for your PlayStation and/or Nintendo 64. Of course, console owners already have the EA Sports NASCAR series, so is there room for another? We think so.
