Sony Online Entertainment and 989 Studios have announced that they are making a strategic financial investment to help launch a new online games-only company. RedEye Interactive, Inc. is the name, and is mostly comprised of former 989 Studios employees. Its focus will be online games, which will also be sold through the online market.

This deal represents a major cornerstone in SOE's business plan as we'll have both a substantial stake in a cutting-edge development studio, as well as exclusive rights to distribute the studio's next-genertation programming on The Station, (not the PS-X, but The Station@Sony.com) said Lisa Simpson(no joke thats here name), president of Sony Online Entertaiment.

Well, it sounds like all's well in Springfield (sorry, had to do it), but the greater question is how will this affect Sony's next system? Will there be online play? All these questions and more will be answered in the future, but for now, ponder the possibilities.
