989 Studios has decided it will not release ShootOut '99. Okay, so we're a little late in reporting this bit of news, but the ShootOut series is one of our favorites and we kept hoping that it would bounce back and emerge on retail shelves this spring. Alas, this will not happen.
The cancellation is a bummer especially considering that ShootOut could have been one of the only NBA games this year to have the new rosters. Even though many games have trade modes, it would be hard to make all of drastic changes the NBA rosters have gone through, like Scottie Pippen to Houston, Ike Austin to Orlando, Gopher legend Bobby Jackson to Minnesota, and that *#!@$ traitor Tom Gugliotta to Phoenix. The question is, why did 989 decide to drop the axe on this game? Well, we're not sure because 989 keeps skirting the issue when we call them. But let's hope that this will allow the programmers to make next year's ShootOut 2000 an amazing game for all basketball fans to enjoy.
