FUNDAMENTALS OF CHEMISTRY

Fundamentals of Chemistry is a 4 credit laboratory science that seeks to provide a basic understanding of the nature of matter. We start from scratch and assume you haven't had any experience with chemistry. You just need a little algebra (Algebra I), like 2x=4, find x. That's pretty much it! This page, and its links, should give you a pretty good idea of what Fundamentals of Chemistry at NCCC is about. Take some time and look around. Oh, you'll need one of these doohickeys(Just a standard $15 scientific calculator) for the course.

Below are some links that can provide you with information about Fundamentals of Chemistry. Just use the left mouse button  to click on the link and get to the good stuff.

ELECTRON ORBITAL CLOUDS
WITHIN AN ATOM

CHEMISTS FOUND CLUES ABOUT HOW ELECTRONS EXIST AROUND ATOMS BY STUDYING THE COLORS THAT DIFFERENT SUBSTANCES EMIT. THEY TOOK THE LIGHT FROM HEATED GASES AND PASSED IT THROUGH A PRISM TO EXAMINE WHICH COLORS WERE PRESENT FROM THE GLOWING GAS. THE COLORS FOR EACH ELEMENT ARE CALLED THE ELEMENT'S SPECTRUM. AND THE SPECTRUM TELLS YOU WHERE THE ELECTRONS ARE!

By the way, you are seeing this site because of electrons hitting your monitor. But we use them again and again and won't run out!
