Linux Operating System

Linux is an alternative operating system written to clone Unix and be fully POSIX compliant. It was written by then college student Linus Torvalds.

Linux is my operating system of choice for several reasons.

• Cost - Linux and many applications for it are available for free
• Open Source - Linux and many applications for it come available in source form so you may modify it however you wish.
• Flexibility - Unlike Windows and Macintosh, Linux offers a variety of choices for desktop (window managers), command line interface (shell), and even the way many parts of the system function (daemons).
