College Life

College Life is described in many different places which give advice on how it can best be done and so there is no point in my doing that here.

Instead here, I will write about my experiences with college and what I have learned. Perhaps someone can benefit from it.

Dorm Life

In the dorm there are several things different from living at home. First is that you live with other people your own age that you have never met before. This is both a growing experience and a challenge. You can find many very interesting people from different areas of the country or even the world. You find people with different perspectives and views on life. You also find people you don't get along with. This will test your patience, but is good for you.

I think that living in a dorm is a very essential part of college life. Those who live at home miss out on a lot of the growing experiences of college.

Food

Depending on your course load, food preparation and meals are often hard to manage. If you can afford a meal plan which allows you to eat at one of the cafeterias, by all means do so. That will make your life easier while providing good food.

If you must prepare you own food, I have found several things that make it easier for you. For quick meals or snacks, canned foods work wonders. Things like chili or spaghetti canned can fill you up quite well and they don't even need to be warmed up.

For breakfast, bananas are good and a little cooking is okay provided you have the time. A bowl of grits, cream of wheat, or oatmeal can be quickly prepared in the microwave and sticks with you well. If you have them available and the tools to prepare them, eggs can add variety to the meal too.

When it comes to dishes, the easiest way to do it is to use very few of them and clean them immediately after your meal. I have found that using very few dishes, perhaps as few as one piece has been quite sufficient for all of the foods I have eaten and it can be easily washed. Bowls and plates also can be easily washed and this saves headaches later.

Classes

I recommend taking a variety of classes but making sure you stay on track for graduation. Although you can take classes for your major during the first year, if you plan to take a break for a mission or any other reason, it may not be advisable. Taking a variety of classes to satisfy general education classes is probably the best idea though you can take some fun classes also.

Social Life

A social life is important, but I haven't had much time to experience it, so I will write more on it later.
