Outrigger Hydroplane

Outrigger hydroplanes are easily the fastest type of boat there is. They consist of the main center section and two sponsons which are connect with booms. Some models have small rear sponsons to help the boat get up on plane easier. As you can see, they are designed for all out speed, definitely not for looks, like scale hydroplanes are. Some outrigger hydroplanes have been clocked at over 100 mph! Their minimal weight and drag help them achieve these speeds.

These hydroplanes are usually powered by a gas inboard engine. A few models use an electric inboard motor. But recently- with the growing popularity of K & B outboard engines, some models use outboard engines for power, although they are not quite as fast as their inboard counterparts.

Outrigger hydroplanes are absolutely not for the first timer, because of their dangerous speeds and driving skills needed. Also, a casual boater would not want an outrigger because they are not good at turns, since they are designed only for speed. But if you are an experienced boater and would like the excitement of exteremely high speeds, this is the boat for you.
