THE OFFICER'S BATTLE POD (Glaug)
I. Dimensions: Length : 10.0 m : 11.4 m (Including PB-19 gun barrel) Width : 8.0 m Height : 18.1 m Weight : 41.2 metric ton II. Type: One man ground/space combat mecha. III. Propulsion: Engines: three (one downward, two rearward) reaction thrusters, output 410/230 kN respectively. Assorted secondary thrusters. Fuel: multiple protoculture canisters IV. Performance: Speed : 300 kph (running) Jumping : 95 m Combat radius : total delta-v 3.6 kps Protoculture supply : average operational life 30 days continuous use for standard battlepods, sliding down to 15 days continuous use for the TPA. V. Sensory Systems: Short range (35 km) conventional radar system Thermo-imager Night vision optics Telescopic optics (x10 magnification) Laser tracker/designator Low power broadband sensor jammer. VI. Armament: Cannons: 1 x 1 PB-19 : a heavy weapon, unique to the Officers Pod. Firing a very powerful beam of particle energy with great accuracy, the 27 MJ localized on one spot are often enough to hole a mecha front to back in its most heavily armored parts. Very few mecha survive such a hit. The drawback is its 9 second recharge cycle, but the cannon has a mini-cyclotron that stores enough accelerated particles for three shots. These can be fired in three seconds. 2 x 1 PB-10 : a Gatling type weapon with four barrels that rotate in one housing. Each barrel fires 2.5 MJ of particle energy, if necessary once every second. All barrels can be fired in parallel, for maximum localized damage, or in series for increased hitting chances. 2 x 1 IC-L (240 rounds) : Impact Cannon, Light. Fires bursts of thin-cased high explosive shells that explode after impact (HESH or High Explosive Squash Head). Standard shell and case design, 39.6mm caliber. Firing rate 600 shots/minute. 2 x 1 AC-L (240 rounds) : Auto Cannon, Light. A standard autocannon of 22.3mm caliber, usually used for anti-personnel use. Standard shell and case design. It fires 850 rounds/minute, and can fire AP shells in addition to HE shells. Missiles: 1 x SL-6 : Launcher for 6 Maggot Universal Dogfight type Missiles (UDM) . No reloads. VII. Armor: Full nuclear, biological and chemical protection, immunity from hand fired solids and energy beams, shrapnel and other fragments. Limited protection from heavier weaponry, adequate up to 30mm autocannon shells or equivalent. VIII. Development: The higher-ranking field commanders in the Zentraedi army were all issued a Glaug Officers Pod. This mecha was even more mobile than the Regult TBP series, and the OP also had the advantage of heavier weaponry. Mounted on the arms for better fields of fire and increased training and elevation rates, the TBP's two particle beams were augmented with a single cannon of almost thrice their power on the torso, and with two light Impact Cannon below the particle beam guns on the arms. In addition, the OP had six small missiles as well as more armor than the TBP, providing better protection for the higher-valued officers. The Glaug usually led groups of Regult on the ground, but could also be equipped with a booster, much as the REF's Alpha fighter could be equipped with a Beta as booster, to turn the essentially ground-based mecha into a transorbital fighter. This booster, the Armored Vehicle, also had some extra weapons built in: 144 dogfight-specialized missiles. However, both the Glaug and the Regult could function as space fighters, though not as aerial fighters, without the benefit of extra boosters. Officer's Pod Cockpit View:

What is AKIRA ? Akira is a manga (Japanese Comic). Manga aren't well known in other countries, but Akira managed to grow even more popular in western countries than in Japan. The american company Marvel has had the original colorized and so all western releases of Akira feature nice colours. Akira tells a story, which could have begun in the midst of the cold war. (But the Soviet Union doesn't exist anymore, you know) The Story: Tokyo, as we know it, was destroyed by a kind of a new super-bomb of unknown origin. 9 hours after, World War III broke out and most of the major cities in the world were completely destroyed. 31 years after, Neo-Tokyo now stands, were the old Tokyo has been. One night, Kaneda and his motorcycle gang have an accident with a little boy with a wrinkled face, as one of an old man. Tetsuo, one of the gang's members crashes into the boy, who mysteriously remains unhurt and then simply vanishes from the eye. Tetsuo is brought to Hospital, and everything seems to have normalized. But that is not at all the case: The strange boy from the last night was a part of a secret military project dealing with supernatural powers. The project is lead by the "Colonel", who wants to develop human weapons with aid of these powers. On his trail are Ryu and Kei (not Kay), members of a semi-terroristic group, who want to discover and destroy his plans. And now Tetsuo is going to be a new member of the project. But his powers rise much faster than the Colonel has expected. Tetsuo manages to find out the location of an underground freeze chamber, where the mysterium AKIRA is kept. Akira, too was a member of the project. But why did they put him in the freeze chamber at 0,0005 Kelvin ? They were afraid of something. Something they couldn't control anymore. Something Tetsuo is going to set free really soon . . . And in midst of all the trouble: Kaneda and Kei. Technical Data: Author: Katsuhiro Otomo Size: 2160 pages, (16.5x23.5 cm) First Appearance: December 1982 in "Young Magazine" Colors: Steve Oliff (original is B/W) The Film There exists an Akira anime, too. It's been directed by Otomo himself, but even he has difficulties in packing 2000 pages into a film of 124 minutes. The result is a very compressed and modificated story, but the show is still fun to watch. The technical quality is on highest standard and there are stunning action scenes. Here are some text files regarding the Akira anime. They're HTMLized versions of the text files, which are found on Venice, the ultimate FTP site for anime topics: Here's a newspaper article, with comments on the film. It's title is Uncontrolled Science and appeared on a Friday the 13th ^_^. There are two synopses of the film: from Capricorn and Animedia, two anime magazines. Be careful when you have not yet seen the film; these documents reveal its complete story. Another thing: Be careful when pronouncing the name "Kay". Phonetic transcription: [Kei]. European Akira fans: just write and say "Kei". Here are two other reviews on the film. They're by Jeff Meyer and Clark Parkhurst. These are a good example on how many different opinions concerning the film exist.

Gargantuan, heavily armored humanoid fighting machines, BattleMechs are the culmination of ten thousand years of organized warfare, with mobility and firepower unmatched throughout history. Now you can choose starter decks for Steiner, Davion, Kurita, or ComStar of the Inner Sphere, or the Clans of Jade Falcon, Wolf, Smoke Jaguar, or Ghost Bear. Whether you choose to align with the Clans or the Inner Sphere, you have the unique strengths and abilities of your chosen faction on your side. The weapons are stockpiled, the lines are drawn, and the age-old wars between factions are infused with new fervor. The BattleTech trading card game will never be the same!
Arsenal
BattleTech: Arsenal--The Name Speaks for Itself by stewart Brooks In March, the BattleTech® TCG starts a whole new arms race with the ArsenalTM expansion, a bona fide powerhouse of destructive possibilities. Just as the name implies, Arsenal provides you with a bevy of reinforcements, alternate forces, and menacing vehicles that will give your opponent a run for the money. The Arsenal expansion will be standard issue for 'Mech® commanders who want to be competitive on the battlefield. The Arsenal vehicle roster includes elementals, assault tanks, and helicopters with vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capabilities. Vehicles can defend and attack just like 'Mechs, but as in the boardgame rules, you roll a die every time your vehicle receives damage. If you roll a 6, that vehicle is history. Some of the vehicles also have what we call the "dash" ability, which allows you to attack with a vehicle during the turn you reveal it. To further support vehicles, Arsenal dispatches some cards that specifically enhance vehicles. Ramming Speed!, a vehicle Mission card, does extra damage to your opponent's 'Mech in a deed of heroic sacrifice. Other vehicle-only enhancements include Ferro-Fibrous Upgrade and Suicide Troops, both potent additions to the vehicle combat deck. As if that's not enough new ammo, the Arsenal expansion also introduces Legacy cards that give you strategic abilities with the influence of legendary personalities from the five Inner Sphere houses. Legacy card leaders include Katrina Steiner, Hanse Davion, Maximillian Liao, Takashi Kurita, and Janos Marik. To stay in the game, you're going to need Arsenal at your disposal. For a sneak preview of some of the cards in the Arsenal expansion, visit the BattleTech main page every day beginning March 16. To stock up on Arsenal, see your local retailer in late March.
MY FAVORITE MECH'S!
THE CLAN MECH'S
THE VULTURE
In its primary configuration, the Vulture serves mostly as a fire-support 'Mech. Many MechWarriors have remarked at the sense of foreboding they felt looking up to see a Vulture perched on a ridge, firing its eight long-range missile racks into the raging battle below. Should the Vulture injure an enemy at long range, it can use its laser weapons to finish off its foe.
THE MAD CAT!
The Inner Sphere's first brush with an OmniMech was with a Mad Cat on the Rock, Oberon Confederation, 13 August 3049. It was from a broadcast by a member of the Kell Hounds mercenary unit that Our Blessed Order learned of these machines and their mysterious masters. ComStar named this design the Mad Cat because its hunched-over torso is common to both the Marauder and the Catapult. The Mad Cat is an exceptional combination of an XL Class engine, Endo Steel internal structure, Ferro-Fibrous armor, and double heat sinks.
The Hunchback IIc is a re-working of the venerable Star League-era Hunchback. The IIc mounts one or two rapid-fire heavy autocannons and is often found with jump-jets. These features make the Hunchback IIc a maneuverable, devastating close-range fighter. The design has some serious flaws, however. It carries a limited ammunition load that is quickly spent. Additionally, its armor is quite light for its weight class, and severely limits the amount of punishment the IIc can take!
Recognized by its missile pack on one shoulder, the Loki is one of the Clan's most easily recognizable shapes. Dubbed the Loki by the Federated Commonwealth Armed Forces, the 'Mech's combination of weapons may often appear to be utterly mad. However, not a single Inner Sphere 'Mech could stand up to the Loki when it first appeared with the Clans.
The Thor's main advantages over other heavy designs are its mobility and its devastating short and medium-range capability. This is true in virtually all configurations; though the Thor may be less powerful than some designs and less quick than others, it is a successful blend of firepower and mobility.
THEINNER SPHERE MECH'S
THE ATLAS
The Atlas was the first Mech to mount such a large and devastating autocannon. Even though it carries only ten rounds for its Class 20 AC, the mere threat of such a large autocannon is often enough to send some Mech scurrying. The weapon's only problem is that it lacks a cooling jacket and can overheat easily.
The CPLT-C1 Catapult was produced by Hollis Incorporated in a limited production run between 2561 and 2563 under a special military contract with the Star League. It was officially classified as a close-support vehicle, designed as a second-line defense with strong offensive capabilities.
One of the more common Inner Sphere designs, the Centurion is a workhorse design suitable for many roles. Its array of mixed-range weaponry gives the Centurion damage potential that increases steadily as it nears its target. As a result, the 'Mech is best known for making slow and steady advances. This particular version of the Centurion is notable for being 5 tons heavier than other designs.
Faced with the superior range and firepower of the Clan invaders, the Federated Commonwealth military wanted a light, fast 'Mech with superior long-range firepower to engage light and medium 'Mechs from a distance and eliminate them quickly. The single Gauss Rifle around which the entire 'Mech is built delivers devastating firepower and range, but causes severe ammunition and secondary weapons limitations. This Hollander II design is ten tons heavier than the original, and seeks to counter the original's deficiencies with additional weapon space.
