SMOYER, JoAnn -
Born on January 30, 1951 in Gastonia, North Carolina, passed away on April 22, 2010 under the loving care of her family at Allegiance Hospice Home of Jackson after a courageous battle against cancer. Survived by her husband, and the love of her life, Gregg, who took such passionate care of her as her primary caregiver for the past year. Also survived by the joys of her life, her three precious daughters, Chandra (Keith) Easterwood, Cher Justice and Amy (Aaron) Keyes, and her stepson Hillary Paul Smoyer, Also by seven grandchildren, Ryan Easterwood, Jared and Alex Justice, Nathan Gatlin, and Aaron, Isabella and Austin Keyes. Also survived by her stepmother Marie Brown, mother-in-law Welma Smoyer, five sisters, Rebecca (Johnny) Davis, Cleo (Caroll) Holden, Dana Russell, Annie (Dennis) Sloan, Susie (Bill) Golombiski, two brothers, Danny Brown and Kenneth (Gail) Fissel, brother-in-law Randy (Carolyn) Smoyer, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends Dorothy Delosh (Virginia Beach, VA) and Dennis and Barbara Keyes. Preceded in death by her father, Harold Brown, mother, Minnie Fissel, stepfather Jimmie Fissel and father-in-law Vaughn Smoyer. JoAnn took great pride in her years as a Brownie and Girl Scout, earning all her merit badges. She was also proud to have served as a volunteer crisis counselor for Jackson AWARE, for which she received a number of citations. She was an avid gardener who designed the beautiful landscaping for her home. She enjoyed sharing her botanical skills with family and friends, imparting to them the joy of flowers. In the past as a wedding decorator, she designed and created beautiful wedding bouquets and flower arrangements. Most recently she and her husband operated Parrot Cove Tanning Salon in Albion. JoAnn and her family would like to thank Allegiance Hospice and all the staff at the Allegiance Hospice Home of Jackson for the loving care they provided her this past year. JoAnn wished to thank in particular, Cathy and Linda, and especially Deanna. JoAnn was also grateful for the spiritual guidance and counseling she received from Pastor Bob Bolton of the Free Methodist Church of Albion. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has occurred. Visitation will be at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 208 West Erie St., Albion, MI at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 1, 2010 followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the Free Methodist Church, 1014 Maple St., Albion. In lieu of flowers, JoAnn asked that donations be made to Allegiance Hospice Home or AWARE.
