Motor City Ferrets maintains an informal supply Shoppe at the Shelter.  We carry new and gently used items which have either been donated to the Shelter, or we do purchase & stock select items.  We always endeavor to offer prices that are lower than the local or online pet shops, and the purpose of our informal Shoppe is to help support our rescue efforts, with all proceeds used 100% for vet care for our shelter critters!  

Over the years our Shoppe has grown in popularity, size and scope.  Today,  we are also pleased to bring many specialty items to the ferret community, including a variety of unique items made by local talent.  We have also included links to ferrety goods in the different categories from merchants that support the shelter.  We hope our arrangement allows you to access a wonderful compliment of ferrety products, from the selection you can pick up at the Shelter, to delights you simply must have by ordering through a website!  

We are never able to maintain a true inventory of goods in the Shelter Shoppe because donated goods come and go much too quickly!  We've included a range of supplies in the different sections of goods we usually have at the Shelter, to give you an idea of what you can usually find in our Shoppe (click on the inset photo), as well as an idea of what things cost.  We're always happy to answer your inquiry if you're searching for something in particular - drop a line to motorcityferrets@hotmail.com

Each section alerts you to how you can purchase the different goods; whether through our Shoppe at the Shelter in Hazel Park or through a linked website.  For goods at the Shelter, of course you're welcome to stop by to shop.  Note:  the shelter does not have business hours.  Visit our Events Calendar for the dates and times of our Open House days, during which you are free to stop on in, or you can make an appointment for a weeknight.  Note:  if you're a new client to Motor City Ferrets, transactions are cash only please; for existing clients, checks are fine. :)

All ferret items have been cleaned and disinfected, and are ready for immediate use.  Motor City Ferrets is an ECE and ADV negative Shelter.

Motor City Ferrets sells primarily used cages in our Shelter Shoppe.  All cages have been thoroughly cleaned and refurbished and are ready for immediate use.  Cages are only available for pick up from the shelter and our stash is ever-changing.  If you're looking for a particular model, we're happy to remember your inquiry and let you know if one comes along.  We also offer a "trade-in" policy for your old cage(s).  If you have a cage that is in good condition but no longer suits your need, we will give you a credit for the donation as a discount on any cage purchase.  Please inquire at the shelter for more information!  

All cages are sold with only the components / accessories listed in the description.  But since all the cages are setup with items from our Shelter Shoppe, indeed when you come to shop for a cage, you'll be able to have at our stash of the finest in accoutrements to trick out your weezils' pad and keep them living in high style!

Carriers & Travelers

Standard ferret size, cat/multi ferret size...and then from time to time we have even larger sizes!  :)  Hard plastic with metal mesh door (typical "carrier"), or pick up a "traveler cage" as shown below.  Traveler cages are those that are large enough for a hammie, littler box, food dish and water bottle, in other words a complete home, just small enough so you can easily move it from place to place when you and your critters are on the move!  :)  Carriers are $5 - $10 and travel cages are $10-$20 

Superpet Ferret / Rat / Chinchilla Cages (see below for models and pricing)

The Superpet Ferret cages have been produced in many different colors over the years, but the fact remains that most are made of totally interchangeable parts!  We call 'em "Standard" and "Tower" sizes, with the Tower size being nothing more than two standard size frames stacked together!  Most frames are modular; put together with plastic clips. 

Shown below are examples of the models currently available in the Shelter Shoppe (we do have other base and shelf colors...just too many to list!).  Check out the photo shown at left to see an example of a Standard model all setup (ferret beanie is a bit smaller than a normal ferret), then use your imagination to decide which cage your ferrets would like best!

As you've already read, this cage is actually just two "Standard" models put together!  The cage is modular and assembles with clips with the frame sitting inside the deep pan.  Use with the stand or without.  One nice feature of this cage is the ability for you to close off a section.  Since the top opens, notice the top level...put three shelves across at that point and you can close off the top to use as a small cage for a nursing or perhaps elderly ferret that can't get up and down the ramps easily.  Put three levels across the middle of the cage and VOILA - you have two "Standard" cages in the floor space of one, in case you have more than one playtime of critters who just won't get along.  Or again, if you have older critters that have trouble getting from the top of a large cage all way down to the bottom, you could split the cage into two essentially, to allow for more manageable space for your geezers.

Prevue Hendryx Ferret / Rat / Chinchilla Cage $35

This cage features 3/4" wire spacing, if you're looking for something a bit narrow for smaller critters.  The three shelves and ramps can be positioned any way you like.  There are two front doors and the base locks onto the frame.   This cage also has a removable bottom wire grate with very narrow wires, so it's easy to walk on if you're a wee critter that needs a bottom grate.  Since ferrets prefer a smooth floor, the grate lifts right out and the deep base becomes the floor.  A nice home for a couple of ferrets...or perhaps a few rats or chinchillas, with no plastic for them to chew? :)

This cage features a folding frame, two front doors and a top door for full access to the cage interior, deep plastic base the holds the frame securely, plus three shelves and two ramps to position as you like.  The cage is roomy and longer than a "Standard" Superpet, making this a fine home for a gang o' weezils!

Marshall Townhome $45

The Marshall Townhome is a nice cage for ferrets, or - because of all the vertical space - for chins as well!  We've shown 4 levels in the photo but the cage we currently have has only 3, no biggie.  ;)  The frame folds down in a few seconds and the base is on casters, so the cage is easy to move around and store/transport.  The shelves can be positioned in a variety of ways as well.  Add plenty of bedding as shown in the setup photo and this cage makes a comfy home for your critters.  

The Midwest cage is large and roomy, and since we offer  an additional third and/or fourth shelf, this cage sets up nicely for a whole mess o' ferrets - or for other critters!  Use with two shelves/ramps for cats, as shown for ferrets, or remove the shelves and equip for birds or reptiles!  Another popular modification is a full middle floor, which is an easy project we're happy to walk you through.  The sturdy metal frame sits into the plastic base, which is on casters.  Add some large hammocks and your ferrets will be very comfortable in this cage - which is also fully collapsible for easy storage, transport and cleaning!
