What fun we had at our 4th annual ferrety picnic, held at VFW Park in Royal Oak on September 17, 2005.  Thanks to everyone who made the day so much fun!

As usual, we held silly contests and games, which the hooman beans enjoyed at least!  We also held our first of what we hope will be big annual raffles.  Click here to check out the raffle prizes and the winners list!  Thanks to the donations of Laura Bright and Lee Julian, plus the generosity of all those who bought tickets, our 2005 Raffle raised over $550 for the shelter!

Dr. Carmona stopped by to share his technical expertise and Shelter Dad Alex put on a magic show. KreativeLee Julian brought all her tools of the trade (visit Lee's site for custom bedding at KreativeLeeKrafted) for on-the-spot ferrety goodies and Bryan Neubauer brought and manned the grill for some hot eats.

But what we found most delightful were some of the day's many surprises!  Barb Adams made a cake that looks like a used litter pan HA! It was absolutely hilarious. Some people were a bit nervous to dig in, but those that did said it was great!

Emily Sweeny delighted all the guests with the goodies she brought. Just like Lee, Emily travels full prepared with quite the setup! She brought several dozen cookies and cupcakes, plus all her tools of the trade - including a laptop computer - to capture photos and then print them onto fancy Fondant (thin sheet icing) to decorate each goodie - WOW!  She also brought a Motor City Ferrets cake. It was so pretty we think no one wanted to cut into it, so Alex and I enjoyed the cake at home all by ourselves…so decadent and YUMMY!

We were so impressed by the creativity of our friends Lee and Emily…if it's made of fabric or cake, these gals can sure turn it into something special - and perhaps ferrety, as well!

Thanks again to everyone who helped make the event so special! Hope to see you again for next year's fun-filled Fest!

Our Heaviest Chubbsters:  Kira Copeland (left) & Jeffrey Kunzelman (right), get weighed in!  Big Jeff takes home his 3rd title!

Our lightest wee'uns Romeo and Roxie pose and Roxie gets weighed in, then a critter competes with Mort for Softest Coat!

Can't see Kira's shortest tail in her portrait, but Bruce faced fierce competition to retain his 8" title (3 years running)!

Roxie won the bag escape game, but there was controversy!  No fouls here, Roxie just paid close attention to her practice session, so once the GO! was given, she simply did what Daddy had taught her moments before!  HA!

We definitely have to make this game more challenging!  :)

Tube Race!  We actually had two rounds, then a sudden death run off.  Get it?  Run off!  HA!  Anyway, Snickers won the day.  :)

 The Critters!

Our buddies Jeffey (silver) and Bruce (chocolate, strange looking face).  They're easy to spot:  Jeff is the biggest critter in the world, while Bruce has a mask issue.  Notice his silly face?  Some time ago his mask fell off...?!?  :)  Wish we could pick out more critters, but egads it gets confusing with so many all together!  We know these two boys because we see them so often.  :)

Shelter Dad Alex tickles a friend, while the kids enjoy some tube action with the furries!

Right:  now that's comfy!  Don't you wish you could sleep like that?  :)

Action shots!  Kill the too-yyy, Kill the too-yyy!  Right:  Ah, fast friends in a pile...what's better for a weezil, 'eh?

  The Folks!

Left:  Bruce and Dad share a snack.  Second to right:  Snickers' is interviewed by local media after winning the tube race!  :)

Left:  Shelter Dad Alex gets silly whilst making burgers.  Second left:  drama as the winning raffle tickets are drawn!
