T'was a fun
time we had on Saturday, August 14 at the Click on any photo for a full size image! |

We had perfect weather for the critters and folks to be outdoors. Not too hot, not too cold - just about right! The critters immediately began having fun in the mighty pink playpen, located in a shady spot in our backyard. That's King Jeffrey the Blubbery sitting atop his carrier throne. That Jeff...always has to be in the spotlight! :) |
Why on earth is the playpen pink, you ask? Once upon a time, shelter Mom Nanci bought a gallon of paint. Much to her horror, once on the wall the color just wasn't what she expected from the paint chip. We had plans for a much fancier pen but we put off making the darn thing until the last minute, so it ended up just simple plywood for this year. The plywood just had to be painted...so at last we found a use for that gallon of pink paint we didn't know what to do with! By next year the pen will be much fancier...plans to trick it out in all sorts of ways are in place! :) |
Hey, there's our crafty friend Lee! She brought the implements of her trade in fanciful ferrety goodies so she'd be ready to custom make goodies or embellish existing items on the spot. Folks enjoyed eats & drinks and then shelter Dad Alex put on a magic show! Note the intense concentration of The Great Alexini as he wows the audience! |
The
critters had such fun in the yard, madly digging as many holes as
possible. |
Here we have folks visiting...a serious case of hammock overload...and some critters having a time out in their traveler cage. Poor Cleo...this good friend of ours was the first to be snitty in the group playtime! :) |
Lots of
goodies for the hooman beans this year. |
We heard from some friends after the event that their critters went home and passed out for several hours. From the look of the yard afterward, we understand! The critters sure did seem to have much fun! :) |
Unfortunately it seems we're the only city block in the entire Metro area to have had rain that day...sigh...it started raining about 6:00, which really caused some confusion. Shelter Mom Nanci just didn't plan properly for rain...primarily because there wasn't a speck of rain anywhere in the forecast, but anyway...hee hee. We had to rush inside and that really threw a kink in the planned schedule, so some things just didn't get done. We did manage to do the contests, but only a few critters were left to compete!!! Next year we'll be much better organized with more games and contests for the kiddos. We also didn't take anywhere near the amount of photos we should have. While we had many shots of the kids at play, we didn't take any of our contest winners. :( Sorry guys - you certainly should be remembered better! :) Thanks to everyone who joined us for the day. Special thanks to everyone who brought treats for the hoomans. We were running around so we're not sure who brought what! Thanks Eric for bringing the tables and Bryan for bringing over the barbecue so we could grill. And a special thanks to Lee for her hard work. We held a raffle, with the first prize a beautiful ferrety robe, handmade of course by Lee (didn't get a photo of that either, geez we sure were slackers that day!). Thanks to Lee's hard work and the generosity of our partygoers, our raffle raised $200 for our rescue. So although only a few people went away with raffle prizes, we hope you'll be proud that you've helped some shelter kids! :)
We're so glad the critters had such fun...sorry the hooman fun wasn't
better organized for the day. :) |
