Miscellaneous Things That Have Happened
Not everything call fall into either a show or a friend category. And that is what miscellany is for, those random anomalies that complete me...let's venture.
To start off, this is a picture of the gravesite of Oscar Wilde, one of my favorite playwrights of all time. This cemetary is the Pere La Chaise in Paris, France. Also in this cemetary is the graves of Moliere and Jim Morrison. Mildly interesting, I know.
This is a picture of my friend Ana and myself during a cast party for The Importance of Being Earnest with Black Sheep Players in Muskegon, MI. The show was really interesting, and it was interrupted by a large blackout during March. However, it was an overall good show, even though the reviewer didn't think so. Oh well, I had fun.
Here's a picture of Trinity and Samuel in one of my many working environments of the Performing Arts Center of Grand Valley. I guess I caught them by surprise, but oh well. This is the ticket box and I have spent a lot of time stressing over crazy audience members and annoying phone messages from fanatics. I call it home.
This is the other work environment of mine, the Costume Shop of Grand Valley State. Jill, our professor resides as the manager of this, which basically means she works us to the bone. You can see me in action, a rarity, I know, just kidding. But I have learned many things about working with costumes here, especially, how to cover my mistakes. Thanks, Jill.
Nuns..hmmh. Anyway, here we are at S.T.A.G.E's 1999 Halloween Ball. And the five of us decided to dress as the cast of Nunsense Amen!. From left to right: Sister Samuel, Sister Micah, Sister Myself (Joel), Sister Dan (there is the back), Sister Trinity, and Renaissance Teresa (action figure?.) Anyway, the novelty only lasted for a few hours, when the temperature sky-rocketed and the habits came off...WHOO! No, silly, we became plain-clothed nuns...pervert.
After the Halloween ball, we re-located to Betsy's old house in Grand Rapids. Here are we, slightly drunk, in her living room. She was a dead-prom queen, and myself, at this point in the night, had become a German Ricky Martin. Anyway, it was a long and memorable night of debauchery and masquerade. God, I love Halloweens.
Welcome to the Dressing Rooms. Here's a backstage shot from GVSU's The Importance of Being Earnest. Jen (left) and myself were dressing the lead female, Gwendolyn. (As you can see, it's Becky Black.) I can't explain what exactly I'm doing to the dress, but let's just say that Gwendolyn is really getting into character. That dress, by the way, was our Costume Designer's baby, it's on display right now, and well it should be. Right there it's just missing it's bodice and cording, plus Gwen's hat. But still, it's marvelous.
Here's another picture of Trinity and Samuel. Are they camera hogs or what. Actually, this was taken in the cast room, a hang out for us theatre majors. There's a nice couch, sink and study station here, whereas we students are waiting for the installments of bunk beds and a better refridgerator, which would make it a proper home. But anyway, This was taken during a Biloxi Blues production meeting, as if we had time to take pictures.
Here's another shot of the Costume Shop. Here Betsy is working to finish a project for her Costume Construction class. I really don't have much to say about this, but I thought I would add it in here to show that I'm not the only moron to work in this shop.
This is one of the dressing rooms of the Central Park
Players Theatre in Grand Haven. This was taken during
a production of the show I directed for CPP's Family
Theatre 1999, Puss In Boots. Shaylynn is applying
makeup onto our Puss, night after night of orange
creme, spirit gum and lambs wool...ugh.
