MAME: It's the word!
MAME is a beautiful musical about the life of a Manhattan Socialite and how her life changes as she meets her only living relative, Patrick, her 10-year old nephew, who she must now raise. Cherry County Playhouse brought in the Famous Loretta Swit (from M*A*S*H) to play the title character. Below are some backstage shots from the run.
This one is actually backstage right before the opening, the party members are lined up on the huge staircase that Mame walks down in her big entrance. It was a rare shot, luckily the grand was down, so no flashes busted through.
This is Max Tuma, a child actor with broadway credits, including Les Mis. He played the young Patrick Dennis. What a voice! He is currently dating a girl from One Life To Live, the soap-opera. He's a babe-magnet!
This is Max's mom, Michele. Not the typical Stage Mom, so she was a real peach.
This is Brenda Cummings and me in the dressing rooms. She played Agnes Gooch, Patrick's nanny. Brenda was one of the sweetest ladies I've ever met. And an amazing voice. I will remember working with here forever.
Diane Findlay played Vera Charles, Mame's best bosom buddy and the famous operetta star:) She was a riot backstage, there are some shots of her backstage that I just couldn't put on here. But you can figure out that she is a loverly and raunchy gal.
And this raving beauty is Mary Ellen Ashley. She played many characters throughout the play. Including a lesbian (here) in the wild opening party scene at Mame's house. She was a crazy woman, a real firecracker.
Sandra Nix was in the chorus, but here she was playing Sally Cato, the old love interest, to the main love interest of Mame's, Beauregard Burnside. Sandra was a special friend of mine. We spent time talking about the "business" and her thick Georgian accent. I hope to see her name in lights one day.
And here is Karen Fredericksen and Diane Findlay. They are such cute ladies. Karen, I have worked with many times before including Godspell, Lil' Abner, Forum and the like at Grand Haven.
Finally, here are the boys, the chorus boys in their hunt gear. A rare instance of trapping them but they were great. What a fun show.
