Costume Designs and Rendering

I LOVE COSTUMING! God, I can talk non stop about design concepts and construction, until my face turns a lovely shade of Roscolux #204. Anyway, here are some different sets of renderings and design concepts that I have. Plan on seeing a lot more of these, maybe even something similar to a Master Degree worth of Rendering...hmmm...

Costume Design 369: Midterm Project

My midterm was a initial rendering of a classic play in which research had to be done on a period other than contemporary. I chose Henrick Ibsen's A Doll House, the period is 1885 Europe, heavily influenced by Germany and stylized ball costumes of the different romantic areas of Europe.

Costume Design 369: Final Project

The Final was a Stock Version of JungalBook, based on the famous novel. We were allowed to venture into concepts based on any theme, period or style. This was more of a trial in conceptualization. I chose a combination of Ancient Orient and Tribal Africa. I however, did not try to make these characters like that animals they are, rather an test in Theatre Suspension of Disbelief, by saying that they are not animals, rathers humans of concious choice. That's what the story is really getting at, right? Why not force it...anyway, the final project.

Biloxi Blues: Costume Design for S.T.A.G.E.

Biloxi Blues, by Neil Simon, is a coming-of-age story in the army. 1943, tres period. Trinity and I worked on this through our Student Theatre Guild at Grand Valley, S.T.A.G.E. Some of these pictures are very good and some are o.k. I rented most of the uniforms from a storage company which lent the same costumes to the Sound Stages of the famous film, Saving Private Ryan, (there was even some fake blood I had to wash out.)

Durang? Durang!: Fall 2000: Costume Designer

Coming this late fall, Trinity and myself are producing an evening of short Christopher Durang plays, I think there are 13 in total. Anyway, I've started renderings and you can find them here, wait in cold-sweat anticipation while more stream your way throughout the summer.
