Discover Dominican:

Our Values

The Dominican Commitment is to live our Christian values in all we do.

Academics

Dominican's college prep curriculum combines high expectations with individual assistance. Our small student/teacher ratio insures personal attention. Our goal is to challenge each student to achieve at the highest levels of her ability. Our faculty is well educated, with seventy-five percent holding advanced degrees. Classroom discussions tend to be lively with strong interaction between teacher and students. Independent thinking, within the confines of an orderly and disciplined environment, is encouraged.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Classroom experience is just one facet of the total educational opportunity available at Dominican. More than twenty extra-curricular activities allow our students to grow intellectually, socially, physically, and spiritually. Our goal is to enable each student to experience responsibility, build self confidence, develop poise, and make a contribution to the community.

Community

Dominican offers its students a caring community with a shared moral purpose. Year long programs and activities are designed to foster personal relationships. Big Sister/Little Sister pairings, our campus ministry projects, and the Core Focus Groups all offer opportunities for our students to listen and learn from each other and to develop respect and concern for the well being of others.

Leadership

Our students are encouraged to stretch their wings by becoming involved in school projects and assuming positions of responsibility. Self confidence grows when a young woman learns to recognize her own gifts in an environment that challenges her to test her limits. Successes as well as failures are experienced in a way that helps build character and a sense of individual worth.

Spiritual Growth

Christian values are at the core of all we do at Dominican. A strong and active faith in God is developed through religious instruction and regular worship services. Our students learn that education is about more than preparing for personal success. Commitment to others and community service are the ultimate goals of a Dominican education.

Our History
For almost sixty years, Dominican has symbolized quality Catholic education for the young women of Detroit. Founded in 1940 by the Adrian Dominican Sisters, Dominican High School and now Dominican Academy have educated more than 10,000 young women in the Dominican tradition of academic excellence and spiritual growth. Alumnae include doctors, lawyers, judges, business owners, homemakers, and community leaders.
