Darren (tha man) McCarty

Darren (tha man) has recently been promted to 'tha man' status because of his outstanding performances this and last season. In 1997, however, Darren became more or less a hero with the Detroit fans. He has done so much to aquire this hero-like status with the fans. His most famous attribute would of course be the March 26 brawl of the '97 regular season where he pummeled public enemy no.1 Claude Lemeiux. Seeking revenge for his best friend Kris Draper, and for the rest of the wings after losing 3 games that season to Colorado, Darren also went on to score the game-winning goal in overtime. What a guy! The now famous Words heard 'round North America that night on March 26, 1997 coming from the television announcer were " Claude Lemeiux was hammered by Darren MccCarty, and he is now being helped into the lockeroom." What a night! That fight also sparked the famous 'goalie brawl' between Mike Vernon and Patrick Roy(whaah!). And of course another attribute to Darren's sucess is the unbeleivable Stanley Cup-winning goal from him in game 4 in 1997 against Philadelphia. As you can probably see, Darren is well liked here. I think I speak for all of Michigan and Detroit when I say...Thanks Darren, You're THA MAN!

In the above picture Darren scores his incredible goal to win the Stanley Cup in 1997 against Philadelphia. He is probably just as famous for his memorable quote after the game in the lockeroom. Being interveiwed and on live TV Darren said "You can take 1955 and shove it up your @ss!" Everything the man says is awsome. Rumor is that Darren has a son named Griffen who looks just like him and has been learning to play hockey. See ya in a few years Griffen!
