DRAGON BALL INFO - Saiyans
Saiyans are warriors from the planet Vegeta. They are fierce and bold, and are born with tails. Though the tail is said to be the source of their power, it may be removed without resulting to much harm on the part of the Saiyans. (There is a theory, though, that the tails provide balance and stability) Once they were mighty galactic conquerors. However, their planet had been destroyed with the arrival of Freeza, and only a few Saiyans survived.
There exists a legend among the Saiyans that they are capable of achieving the state of Super Saiyan (SSJ). The transformation process had been rediscovered by Goku during his battle with the very creature who had destroyed his home planet. The key to the transformation is anger, a rage so consuming that it triggers something deep within the Saiyan. An enormous release of ki energy follows, and the Saiyan's hair is turned into a golden shade, a manifestation of his power radiation. This transformation not only involves appearence, but also drastically increases the warrior's speed and power.
In the DBZ series, there are several individuals capable of transforming into SSJ: Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Goten and Trunks (Broli can be counted in a way, although his power can be considered unique and is referred to as Hyper Saiyan.) While Son Goku and Vegeta are pure-blooded Saiyans, their children (Gohan, Goten and Trunks) are half-human by origin. However, the warrior trait breeds true, and some say that the human blood has further enhanced the warrior spirit.
