Baptized For The Dead
Baptized For The Dead

Oftentimes when a Mormon is trying to defend his own unique beliefs or destroy the faith of a Bible believer, that Mormon will bring up baptism for the dead, as it is mentioned in 1 Cor. 15:29. Here is how that text reads:

Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? (KJV)

It is very easy for a Christian to answer this Mormon question after examining the immediate context, that is, verses 29 and 30:

Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? And why stand we in jeopardy every hour? (1 Cor 15:29,30)

Baptism For The Dead

Please notice the contrasting pronouns they and we in 1 Cor. 15:29,30. The pronoun theyrefers to the ones believing in and practicing baptism for the dead, while the pronoun werefers to the Christian group that Paul identifies himself with. In other words, that passage refers to baptism for the dead, but it was not practiced by Christians. It was done by the non-Christian people in Paul’s day and not the group Paul identified himself with! This also explains why there is never any other reference to baptism for the deadanywhere else in God’s Word, the Holy Bible.

Mormon Mythology

The Mormons have nothing to draw from for the details of this strange doctrinal distinctive. Hence, they must depart from the all-sufficient Bible, which is obvious error in itself:

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Tim 3:16,17)

Karen Carpenter

Such has resulted in people being baptized for the dead and baptism by proxy. One example is Karen Carpenter. After she died, the Latter Day Saints by proxy have baptized Karen Carpenter, the singer who passed away in 1983. Other famous people were similarly baptized. This is done in a Mormon Temple and the people baptized by proxy will have a special opportunity, because of it, for salvation! (Of course, none of those details or benefits are found in the Bible anywhere.)

In Summary

Sometimes the false religions will bring up some strange doctrine/s and because Bible-believers are not acquainted with the Scriptures, they are thrown into confusion. Too often it is much worse than merely being thrown into confusion, that is, the gullible, naive and exploitable do get deceived into the Latter Day Saints group, which also ludicrously believes in God the Mother, that Jesus is the Spirit-brother of Lucifer, that God was once a man and man can become God, baptism is necessary for salvation, etc. It is vitally important that we all recognize Joseph Smith Jr. for who he was based on Scripture. His true identity is false prophet and deceiver (Mt. 24:11):

Many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.

There is no need to pray about the Book of Mormon or the LDS church. We don’t lack knowledge about either or its founder. Since they are so different and contrary to the Bible, the real Holy Spirit (who gave us the Bible) can’t be leading or directing them. Do not be deceived by their baptism for the dead practice. It is not Christian. Click here to read much more on Latter Day Saints. This information could make an eternal difference. GOD BLESS YOU.

Below you will read of various characteristics of the righteous. Carefully examine your own heart and see if you are described. If not, then repent. You have reason to believe you are on the road to hell:

The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteouswill shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. (Mat 13:41-43)

NOTE: The righteous are not in the group described as causing sin and doing evil.

Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?” The King will reply, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Mat 25:37-40)

NOTE: The righteous are described as giving to the hungry and thirsty, needy people, providing shelter for the stranger and visiting the sick and imprisoned.

For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” (Rom 1:17)

NOTE: The righteous have a living faith which obeys God.

We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me. (1 Tim 1:9-11)

NOTE: The righteous are excluded from the listing.

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. (1 Pet 3:12)

NOTE: Those who do evil are not the righteous.

If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner? (1 Pet 4:18)

NOTE: The righteous are not ungodly or sinners.

If he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard) (2 Pet 2:7-8)

NOTE: The righteous are distressed by what they see and hear from the wicked.

Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right isrighteous, just as he is righteous. (1 John 3:7)

NOTE: The righteous do what is right.

The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously; (Psa 37:21)

NOTE: The righteous have a different view of money than the wicked. They give generously.

The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked. (Prov 10:11)

The tongue of the righteous is choice silver .... (Prov 10:20)

The lips of the righteous nourish many .... (Prov 10:21)

The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom .... (Prov 10:31)

NOTE: In all four of those verses the words of the righteous are shown to be a fountain of life, choice silver, nourishing and bring forth wisdom.

The plans of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful. (Prov 12:5)

NOTE: The righteous man has just plans.

A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal .... (Prov 12:10)

NOTE: A righteous man has kind concerns for his animals.

A righteous man is cautious in friendship .... (Prov 12:26)

NOTE: A righteous man is careful who his friends are.

The righteous hate what is false .... (Prov 13:5)

NOTE: A righteous man hates lies (false doctrine).

The righteous care about justice for the poor .... (Prov 29:7)

NOTE: The righteous want justice for the poor.

The righteous detest the dishonest; the wicked detest the upright. (Prov 29:27)

NOTE: The righteous hate dishonesty and are hated by the wicked.

Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. (Prov 11:4)

NOTE: To get delivered from death (second death) we must be righteous.

It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. (1 Cor 1:30)

NOTE: The Lord Jesus is our righteousness and much more.

These and other characteristics of the righteous do NOT assure that if you have some of them you are righteous in God's sight. There are unsaved people who feed the poor, care for their animals, etc. The key is JESUS. Doing such things as we trust in and follow Jesus. Do you know the real Plan Of Salvation?

I am Back!
Mood:  a-ok

I have been off of the internet for a while and many things have changed for me. First on the list I was almost killed in my own home in Michigan. I looked down the barrel of a loaded 12 ga. shotgun in the hands of my wife. She pulled the trigger...twice. Once again God protected me. She didn't know how to get the safety off. I was only 8 feet away. So I lived and got a divorce. I will keep this short this time. I have lots to say and might even preach a little bit. Till next time.
