Whatever Happened to Edna Mae?
"I married my Edna Mae in ought-three and I was with her right up to the end. Not a pretty picture. Wrinkled and senile and cursing me for my youth. Wasn't our happiest time." -- The Mayor, "Choices", Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
And with four lines that take less than a minute to run through, the Mayor brings a whole chapter of his dark past to light, yet somehow plunges it even deeper into mystery. Who was Edna Mae? How did she die and did the Mayor have something to do with it? More importantly, which actress would you like to have seen play her? I posed this question on Deja and got these interesting answers.

Siobhan Fahey
-- Siobhan will always be Edna to me. :) When I wrote about Edna in my fanfic I modeled her on Shuv; her old age incarnation was based on Shakespear's Sister's "Hello Turn Your Radio On" video (click at left to see screen grabs, courtesy Neil). Click here for some choice pics of Shuv along with Harry Groener.
Shirley Manson
-- Well, I tried to find a pic of Shirley from "Push It". (I tried and I tried and I tried and I tried...) No one had any. So I stole this pic of her, looking not unlike she did in the video. What a perfect match for the Mayor! Shirley is red-haired, beautiful, radiates evil, and could probably kick some serious vampire ass on her own. Heck, she is a vampire. And a wolf, and a demon, according to "Temptation Waits". (Eerie alert: the BTVS official soundtrack features "Temptation Waits" on it!! YIKES!!)
Geena Davis
-- In "Beetlejuice", Geena played a sweet faced young bride who is turned into a withering corpse. The similarities are obvious. This suggestion came from a Deja chatter.
Irene Ryan
-- And another person suggested Irene Ryan, Granny on the original Beverly Hillbillies. "Ellie May, tell your paw to quit chowin' down on them spider critters, ya hear?!"
Katherine Helmond
-- She played Mona on "Who's the Boss?" I wasn't able to find a picture of her. But someone suggested her, so listed she is!

Martha Stewart
-- We all know she's a neatnik and too perfect to be true. And if you work at K-Mart (as I do) you also know she's EVIL. 'Nuff said.

The Loch Ness Monster
-- Uh...that's assuming it's a she, and it's single. (If you don't get this, you probably haven't seen the season finale, in which case this probably constitutes a spoiler...in which case....don't read this!!

Claire Stansfield
-- She was scary as hell as Alti on last season's Xena episodes. She would be excellent as "old" Edna. In real life, this "old hag" is actually a beautiful lady, so she could concievably play young Edna as well.

Parasite Eve
-- OK, now we're gettin' crazy. (Like the Lochness Monster wasn't?) I've never actually played this game, but I saw the promo mini-movie at work one day and it blew me away. Eve is a classically trained opera singer who, while performing at New York's Carnegie Hall, decides it's the perfect time to incinerate all the theatergoers and mutate into a spiky, devilish lookin', energy-ball-hurling thing and destroy all of Manhattan in the process. WOW!! Forgive us, your Honor, but that's what we call an Ascension.
The Parasite Eve video game is available; frighteningly enough, only on PLAYSTATION. The perfect gift for the turncoat Slayer who has everything....
