While the Turkey is in the Oven...

Back to Topic Index

It is Thanksgiving time, a time to reflect on everything we are thankful for and to eat a lot of turkey!  But, for Craft show exhibitors it is time to get ready for next year!  It is time to get on all the shows mailing list, read through applications, check deadlines and fill up the spring weekends!

First thing you want to do is make sure you are on the mailing list for shows.  Some shows now have their applications on line.  Print them out now!  (I will explain later)  Call promoters, school, townships and get on those mailing lists!  Remember Sunshine artist is the Magazine that has craft shows from all over the country!

Secondly, get a calendar just for your shows.  You will need to write in many areas so make sure the days have large areas to right in.

Third, you need a folder, a large folder for all your applications. I use a filing cabinet, you can use any type as long as it is big and you can separate it into 2 sections.  One will be for Applications, the other will be for Notifications.  The second section is for applications you have sent in and are waiting to hear from.  Even though they usually send you further information about the show always keep the application.

Now, you are ready and the applications are coming in. Sit down and carefully read all the information. And you have decided to do the show, now get your calendar, on all applications there is a deadline for applications to be sent in, lets say it is Jan. 4, 2001, go to that date and write in the name of the show and the deadline. Now find the notification date, do the same thing for that. Then file in your applications file. Do this for all your shows and hang this at your computer.  This way you will never miss a deadline!  Some spring shows have deadlines by Dec.1st so make sure you have checked these deadlines!!  Print out all applications on line, fill in the dates and file in your applications file.

When you have filed out the application and sent it in place the remainder in the notification file. This way when you are jumping up and down because you got into the show, you will be able to find the application before your feet even hit the floor.  This method only takes a couple of minutes and will save you time, and energy in the long run!

Happy Soaping!
