Speaking of Craft Shows ...

Back to Topic Index

As far as tent/canopies go, you can do a couple things. There are shade protectors at area stores, these have mesh tops and are free standing.  They only provide shade, they will not protect you from rain and they are light weight, in show terms.  There are also "Canvas" canopies, at the same stores.  Which will work well  till you decide is this will be a few shows a year or a lot of shows.  If you use one of these take with you plastic tarping for your sides.  This way if the weather turns bad you can attach the plastic to your sides with the big clamps they sell at home centers.  You can also spray water proofing on the canvas canopy tarp for added water repellant.

E-Z ups are the next step.  I have used one for years.  The  joke is "E-Z up, E-Z down" (meaning in a bad storm)  I have been in this in a bad storm and it is nerve racking.  These are great if you do a lot of shows alone, but their pointed top is their down fall.  The wind can get under there and blow them away.  I have come up with a couple tricks to keep this from happening.  At night I bring the top down to half it's height, this lets less wind underneath.  I  always have all 3 sides one.  This again cuts done on the wind getting under the peak.  And weights are a must, must, must!!!!  I use 45lb weights on each leg. (I have directions for making weights on the Soapmaking101 home page)

Tables, use whatever you have for your first show.  If they provide tables, use theirs.  As you do more shows you will develop a idea of how you want to display everything.  I have every light weight tables right now, but I will be buying heavier tables this year.  I also suggest weighting down your tables.  Sand bags, water jugs, etc. will work fine.  This is mostly so, if some bumps the tables or the wind gets really bad, your tables won't fall over.  Remember the table cloths will cover the weights under the table.
