Red Sonja was created by Frank Thorne for Marvel Comics. Frank left Marvel, but Marvel kept the Sonja character.
Red Sonja's gimmick is a simple geas: No man can have her unless he beats her in a swordfight. However, her swordmanship is perfect due to practice and an extra magic spell besides the geas.
I like her because she can whip any man's butt in a sword fight. She's also a strong-willed person, who has dealt with her geas with grace.
