GAYLORD ROTARY NEWSLETTER

October 1998/No. 2 Jim Grisso, Editor (732-1111)P.O. Box 1084 Gaylord, Ml

"Atta Boy," Curt Reppuhn

President Jim Lappan gave the September Gaylord R otary "Atta Boy" award to Curt Reppuhn, our hard-working secretary. Curt, in a short time, has developed several new policies and programs that will having lasting benefits for our club.

Also, at the Oct. 1 5 meeting, Prez Jim thanked the CPA firm of Distel, Okrei, Keskine & Cook for doing the club's taxes at no charge.

A new system for attendance is in effect. It's pretty much based on the honor system in which each member checks off his or her name from a list. Remember the Four-Way test, Rotarians.

Carl Robinson introduced our exchange students, including Keli May, Felicia Setiawan, Danielle Bunn and Mat DeMoss.

Dr. Jim Mathews bragged for a buck that he had won a golf lesson with Rotarian Don White and noted that in 60 years of playing the game and all his instructors Don is among the best. Don responded that if he can hit the ball as well as Jim when he's his age he'll be very happy. Of course, wise-acre Tom Wagar piped in that would happen only if Don lives to be Jim's age. Zowie!

Some birthdays and anniversaries:

Felicia Setiawan - 17th birthday, Tom & Rita Wagar - 11th anniversary, Kevin & Tina Makarewicz - 5th anniversary, birthdays for Sue Topp, John Kluck and Carl Robinson. Rotary Anniversaries: Gerb (15 years) and Bill Fileccia (11 years).

Fred Lickteig walked with $42 in the 50-50 and Jim Schwandt won lunch for two at Marsh Ridge.

Road Rally: Couture most truthful, wins

Mike Couture drove off with top honors in the 1998 Rotary Road Rally because he lied the least, according to Tom Kuch. Did we say ROTARY Road Rally'? Apparently, competitors called Kuch, the rally organizer, with questions during the rally but identified themselves as Couture. What goes a round comes around, as they say. Anyway, reportedly a good time was had by all, as usual.

In other business at the Oct.22 meeting, Dennis Murphy reported on the Rotary International and Rotary Foundation disaster relief program, RI's is short-term and RF long-term. President Jim Lappan said a new membership campaign will kick off Oct.29. His goal is for five new members.

A STRIVE meeting was scheduled to be held Oct. 28 at Gaylord High School, according to chairman Larry Edwards. St. Mary High School will be included this yean Mentors are needed. See Larry or Jim Lappan.

Cindy Pushman, executive director of the local Family Independence Agency, presented a program on her agency. Cindy (who happens to be Tom Gill's daughter) has served here 13 years in various capacities. (Question: where did she get all that brain power?)

Dick Weber bragged for a buck that his daughter finished third in the Big North Conference cross country meet. She's only a freshman! Bet Dick doesn't train with her.

Terry Morgridge invited Rotarians to an open house Nov. 5 from 4-8 p.m. at the new offices of DEM Architect located one door south of BJ's.

Paul and Lynne Price recently observed their 9th anniversary, Steve Sella and Gerb observed birthdays in October.

Jack Deming won $41 in the 50-50 and Chris Collins brunch at Marsh Ridge.
