UNREPRESENTED NATIONS AND PEOPLES ORGANIZATION
Second Session
The Hague, 20-26 January 1995
General Assembly Resolution-5
RESOLUTION ON THE STRUGGLE OF THE NAGA PEOPLE
IN THEIR RESISTANCE AGAINST INVASION
The General Assembly,
RECOGNIZING the historical sovereignty of the Naga people over their territory, the rights of the Naga people to determine their own government and the illegality of the invasion and continued occupation by the Indian and Myanmar armed forces:
APPALLED that Indian and Myanmar occupation forces have perpetrated ceaseless atrocities on the Naga population since 1954;
CONCERNED that the Indian and Myanmar governments have prevented international observers, the international human rights community, and the media from witnessing the abuses in Nagalim, thereby preventing them from reporting the situation to the international community;
NOTING that the UNPO is the only international organization that which has stood behind the people of Nagalim and that which has worked to bring about a peaceful political solution;
Therefore,
STRONGLY CONDEMNS the Indian and Myanmar governments and their militaries for their invasion and continued occupation of Nagalim, and for their rampant violations of human rights of the Naga people.
CALLS on India and Myanmar to stop employing military action, and to begin peaceful political negotiations.
DEMANDS that India and Myanmar allow international observers, the international human rights community, and the media to investigate the situation in Nagalim.
AGREES to send a fact-finding human rights mission to Nagalim at the earliest time possible
VOWS to continue its support for Nagalim and the Naga people.
