E-mail FAST Effectively

Please read the applicable sections below before sending an e-mail. This is a personal website, so it is usually better to contact someone other than me with questions you may have, or your concerns may already be addressed below. Most e-mail inquiries are already answered below; please save us both time by checking first.

Advertisements, advertisers, and businesses. Do you want to advertise on the site or want a link from here? Sorry, but I can't accept advertising and do not link to businesses. The advertising you see on the site is not endorsed or put online by me. The services offering free content put it online. You will have to check with them to see about adding your advertisements to their services.

Donations. Although your kind gestures are very appreciated, FAST is a personal webpage run by one person, and not an organization. I do not accept and cannot accept donations. Donations of time are always accepted--that could be writing an article for the site, or helping moderate a forum.

E-mail Settings. Make sure you can receive e-mails from Hotmail and Yahoo addresses. Many e-mail servers filter out my responses as spam. Please make sure you can receive e-mails from me before writing. Thanks! :)

Media. If you are in the media, please e-mail and be very specific and detailed with what type of information you are requesting. If you are using FAST as a resource for an article, book, magazine, etc. there is more information here.

Medical questions. I have no medical or scientific training and this is a personal website, with no MDs on board. All of the members here value your health, and we want you to go where you can get the most help. If you have a medical question, you need to contact your allergist, and not FAST.

Outages. In the case of an outage with the website or mailing list, I'm in the dark, too, so (unfortunately) I can't offer any assistance or estimates of when these services will be working again. I understand the frustration and confusion outages can cause.

Personal information. Many people send me their phone numbers and addresses, asking me to call or write them and send information. This is a personal website and I do not have the financial resources to offer outside information or phone consultations (see the 2003 financial disclosure). However, we do have outside sources you can request. http://www.angelfire.com/mi/FAST/boutique.html

Product development. People and companies developing products and websites have asked me to find out of there is a need for certain merchandise/services among the food allergic population. Unfortunately, I don't have the means to collect this sort of research data for you, but I think it's wonderful that you are trying to make life easier for people with allergies.

Publishers, websites, etc. wanting content Here are the answers to two commonly asked queries: (a) Current content on FAST is copyrighted by its respective authors. I can only very rarely make agreements to reprint information from FAST, and only when I am the author. It is much better to ask for (b) New content. New content, written by me, must be preceeded by a written agreement. In your first e-mail, please indicate your proposed (i) licensing terms and (ii) payment. (I never sell/grant copyright, only licensing terms, to publishers.)

Press releases/Publishers, companies, product inventors, and writers wanting reviews of finished products. As a special service to you, if you submit a succinct "press release" about your book or product, it will be posted one time to the FAST mailing list. You must submit this using the e-mail address below. Certain restrictions apply. Before submitting a release, click here.

Questions and comments (in general). If this is a question or comment for a mass audience (such as a request for a recipe, or anything you'd want more than one person to read), it's much more effective to post it to the mailing list at http://www.angelfire.com/mi/FAST/form.html. This invitation doesn't apply to spams or ads, of course. Spams and ads aren't welcome and will be promptly removed by one of the moderators.

Search. Have you checked the search engine first? FAST is a big site, and what you want may already be online.

Stay general. Your message may be seen by more than one person . . . in fact, it may be forwarded to the entire mailing list. This is so you will have an opportunity to hear from more than one person. Most people find this forwarding of mail to be very valuable. But it's also a reminder to not say anything that might embarass you or others. Not all messages are forwarded, but if I feel that the message is better suited for a large audience, I will forward it for your convenience.

Students. I used to get a lot of requests for school report help. Because of that I've come up with a page that answers the most common questions that grade and high school students have. Please check it out before you send an e-mail: Click here.

Submissions. Ready to submit something? Great! Please read this article before sending your recipe submission. Any other "submission" pages you may have arrived here from usually explain what to submit. Your submissions are always greatly appreciated by all, and help enhance the site.

Webmasters and Support Group Leaders: Please Read. You may not add my e-mail address to your mailing lists/solicitation lists without my permission! I have had my e-mail address put on many allergy lists that I never signed up for. Most disturbing has been being solicited by other allergy groups for funds which I do not have. This does not mean you can't e-mail me personally about something--of course you may! :)

Finally, here's the address. Remember that sending a message to this address indicates you have read and understood what is written here.

Find out more about the person you'll be writing to (this is a private website, not a company).
Make sure your subject line says "FAST visitor e-mail" or your e-mail may not be seen.
