Siracusa is an ancient city that has it's roots in the Greek colonists of the 8th century BC.

The bridge that links modern Siracusa to the ancient Island of Ortigia where the Greek settlers founded the city.

These are the sandstone remains of the Tempio di Appollo, the first grand Doric temple in Sicily.

The Porta Marina, located on the medieval island of Ortigia, is a fifteenth century gate.

On an island measuring only 1km long and 1/2 km across, it has a surprisingly claustraphobic feel to much of it.
