Entering a blog of finance

As we see financial market turmoil, American Economy crashing following the same path as the famous "Titanic"; I am thinking what is the right thing to do for an average person like me who is worried about day to day living, worried about what's going to happen with my job, my little bit of savings and whatever investment I have in 401k or stocks. Should I pay money to a financial adviser to tell me how to be solvent and be ready for my retirement, but who are these financial advisers? People who are now balied out or will be bailed out after causing such a financial turmoil.
As I am thinking in my mind and reading tons of financial suggestions and bully's from GURU's who so far lost my trust to prove that their suggestion and guidence is what we need to follow to be in a good financial condition; I question whether I just need a very very basic common sense type of financial knowledge which is "Cut your coat according to your cloth"...I hope I don't have to explain why I picked this simple idea to plan my financial goal from today, because I learned my lessons after seeing today's situation and I hope lot of you would agree with me that we need to observe the present to predict our future, and keep the past at your memory to be cautious.
I would appreciate if you would share your thoughts or experiences here, this blog is fully open for those of you who feel you want to share your simple financial idea or knowledge with others and let's try to help each other that way.
