Wake surfing is the latest board sport to hit the waterways, but it’s quickly becoming the most popular watersport because of the amazing feeling that comes from being pushed by theEight.3 wave left behind by your boat
Surf Style boards are similar to their ocean complement. They are thicker, more floating and they feature longer fins for a more controlled feel on the wake. We recommend surf style boards for beginners because they are easier to learn on.
Weighting your boat
It is very important that one weights their boat
properly if they expect to wake surf and actually stay on the wake after
throwing the rope. Here are four things to keep in mind:
Remember, your boat needs around 1,800 pounds of extra weight on top of the stock weight you already have in place to produce a heavy wake.
Three quarters of the extra weight should be on the right or left side of the back to middle back of the boat, and one quarter of it should be in the front of the boat
If your boat is leaning mostly to one side, don’t worry – that’s what you want. Just remember to turn around correctly for everyone’s safety. For example, as soon as the rider falls, put the boat in disinterested and steer the wheel all the way to the side opposite of the wake. This is because you don’t want to drive over the waves you just formed – it will flood the boat with water, which can be dangerous.
Staying on the wake
Once your boat is weighted correctly, you can get to surfing. Here are four
more tips:
While riding, it is important to know your front foot is your gas and your back foot is your brakes. Make sure your back foot is flush up against the kick tail to begin with and your front foot is spread out to the middle of the front protection on the board.
Once you have your position down and you get on the charming spot, you can stay toward the boat by putting your weight more above your front foot, and then fall back from the boat by putting your weight more above your back foot.
Wake surfing can be done with two types of boards: skim style and surf style. Skim-style boards have fins less than 2.5 inches (6.4 cm), while surf-style boards have larger fins. Skim-style surfers often perform activities adapted from skateboarding and snowboarding, and surf-style surfers mostly perform above ground tricks that are similar to traditional surfing. Because wake surfing has grown in popularity, various companies now market skim and surf-style boards specifically designed for the sport.
It's difficult to wake surf without an adequately weighted boat -- one weighted to either the left or right side, which allows it to produce a larger wake. Large wakes break to one side, simulating a small, but surf able, ocean wave. The amount of extra weight used depends on what your boat can handle. If you're a regular surfer, you may want to install fat sacs on your boat and connect them to the ballast system.
To stand up, qualified wake surfers recommend that you start by lying in the water with your heels resting on the board. As the boat picks up speed, hold on to the rope and use its worry to pull yourself onto the board. Bend your knees for balance and position your feet shoulder-width apart. You will probably want to stand toward the back of the board so the front won't catch the surface of the water, dive the board. Your position will vary depending on your personal preference, skill level and the type of board you use.
Once you feel confident on the board, it's possible to adjust your position to move closer to and beyond from the boat. Putting more pressure on your back foot will slow you down, causing you to back off from the boat. Leaning on your front foot will effectively speed you up, begin you to move forward in the wake. But be careful: too much pressure in one direction and you may wipe down. Even so, experiment with your footing to find where in the wake you're best able to surf.
If you're a boat driver and your wake surfer wipes out, don't directly turn around back into the wake -- you may accidentally enter the waves you created and flood the boat. Instead, slow down -- or put the boat in neutral -- and circle back extensively, away from the wake.

Start Me Up
Getting up on a Eight.3wake
surfboard is similar to doing so on a wakeboard. Let the board float across in
front of you; prop your heels atop the board in a width equal to your position.
When the boat move quickly, the board will flip up toward your toes and bear
against the soles of your feet.
Go Easy
Don’t power yourself up. You’ll go down the board. Instead, keep your weight
centered and allow the boat to pull you up and on top of the water. As you come
up, pivot your hip toward the boat and assume a surfing stance.
Seek the
Sweetie
Look for the wake’s charming spot near the trough, approximately 5to6 feet
behind the transom. This is where you’ll finally be able to toss the tow rope
back into the boat and keep on riding by exactly surfing the wake.
Stop ’n’ Go
Your front foot is the gas pedal, and your back foot is the brake. Shift weight
to your front foot and you’ll speed up toward the boat. Distribute weight to
your back foot to drop back. Shuttling to stay in the lovable spot is at the
heart of wake surfing.
Face Off
Surfers feel relaxed facing the wake. A “regular foot” (left foot forward)
rider chooses the left side of the wake. A “crazy foot” (right
foot forward) rider chooses the right side of the wake.
Ballast
It!
To boost one side of the wake, add weight to
that side and corner of the boat. This can be done with built-in onboard ballast
or even passenger position. Your boat won’t ride level: The idea is to pump up
the wake.
