How does taking a life affect you psychologically?
This makes absolutely no sense to me. Why is the U.S. military now serving the role U.N. peacekeepers supposedly exist to fill? Why is the U.S. tax payer subsidizing defense for the entire globe? Agree or Disagree: The U.S. military withdrawing from the world stage would be "self defeating"?
I am pretty sure I'm not biased as a parent. My wife is one semester from getting her Masters Degree in Special Education and is an early intervention specialist working with infants to pre-k. My daughter (16 months old) is measuring advanced on all assessments. By all indications she's going to be very smart. She's beautiful, not only to me but also by judging the unsolicited reactions and approaches by strangers outside of our social network. Her appearance provokes people to interact in spite of being strangers. I'm not bragging, I'm concerned and a tiny bit hyper-vigilant. Both my parents were social workers in childrens protective services. I'm familiar, more so, than most people with the dark side of reality. I also have military experience and training in martial arts/self defense. I teach women's self defense, and so am again exposed to the darker side of reality. Lastly, I'm watching the movie "The Lovely Bones". There is a treaty between the Americans and Australians saying that Australia has to assist in military actions in the Pacific (ie a war against China), and I am sure Korea would A. be busy fending of the N.Koreans who might try to use this as an opportunity to attack, or B. they would be pulled in to the fight due to their tight connections with the US military. Since Japan hosts more than a dozen US military camps, do you think that Japan would participate in the conflict? Would it be considered an act of self defense if they did? Do you think China might use the conflict to exact revenge on Japan for acts committed 60-70 years ago? I want to know if I would need a license or permit to teach self defense in Ohio. I have a military Martial Arts background and I currently compete in amateur MMA. I would like to to either start my own self defense shop or teach some were but i want to also abide by the law and i cant find anything out about it.

Jesus told us to love our enemies, not to invade and kill them. Any soldier that kills is a murderer. I fail to understand why Christians support the military. I know Jesus told us to take up our swords (or something to that affect). I believe that that is meant for personal self defense only. If someone attacks you, you can hurt them in self-defense. Why do my fellow Christians support the murderous military?
Now, from what I understand, have seen, have studied, and heard, San Shou/Sanda was taken from Chinese martial arts, including Chinese wrestling, which is just throws and takedowns, and is not exactly kung fu. Also sanshou is used by the chinese police and military for combat, and was created by the Chinese Red Army for Self Defense and uses all the full effectiveness of Chinese Martial arts instead of just flashy movements and chi, but straight up hand to hand combat, so, I wonder, would a well trained kung fu champion, black belt(sash?) or an equally well trained and experienced sanshou/sanda champion in a fight? btw my moneys on the sanda fighter FTW but please give me your opinions and reasons on who will win and why :) thank you

Is it legal for a 19 year old in California to buy/own military grade firearms?
I'm 6ft 163lbs trying to find a fighting style to pursue. I'm in the military so fitness isn't much of an obstacle. Not really looking to be in competitions just recreation and self defense. I don't like ground fighting but Im getting BJJ lessons, trying to find a striking style that compliments BJJ. Any ideas?

Martial Arts fighting style help?
Defense Secretary Gates today discussed the need to actively monitor and censor information coming out of Afghanistan, from top brass all the way down. In essence, Gates seems to be saying that whatever is being reported to the media must first pass a review by the DOD or military. Doesn't this eerily remind you of what happened during Vietnam (think "Follies")? If information is being censored, doesn't this lead to the possibility of military abuses (e.g. My Lai), or inaccurate- and self-serving- reporting about military strategy and successes? (think Pentagon Papers). And perhaps more broadly, doesn't this in some sense question the overall strategy in Afghanistan (think "what are we fightin' for?").
