In the past few years there has been steady growth in India travel and tourism industry, with total tourist visits increasing from 577 million in year 2008 to 1060 million in year 2012, an annual increase at rate of 16.3 percent. The growth is largely due to increase in income and change in lifestyles, followed by support by government by easing the visa process for international
travelers, and tax holidays for hospitality sector in India.

Annual growth rate of 6.5 percent in tourist arrival is expected over the next decade. Expenditure done by foreign tourists is expected to be INR 3000 billion by year 2013, growing at 10 percent annually.

Spending of capital investments is done in all sectors of travel and tourism industry, such as new visitor accommodation, transportation equipment, restaurants and leisure facilities. This leads to social development of economy for infrastructural development specific for tourism industry.

These investments generates social development of an economy as infrastructure created for tourism purposes in areas of transportation, accommodation, can also be utilized by the community in general.
