Images

Images and multimedia are both an important part of web design considering images can be used in many different ways through out your web site. Such as graphic content, page backgrounds, and navigation elements. When incorporating graphics to the design can make a page easier to read along with giving the page an unique style and mood. Before adding images to your web site it is best to optimize an image is to make sure that it is properly sized and formatted for web display. The four main factors affecting an image file size are resolution, dimension, file type, and color depth. Ways to optimize your web images would be to make sure you are using the proper Web image resolustion (72 p.p.i), crop out unnecessary elements, resizing the image so that it does not exceed 300px in width and height.

Multimedia

The term 'multimedia' refers to the integration of sound and/or video with Web page text and graphics. When adding multimedia to your web page you have the ability to enable or disable your multimedia's auto start feature. By choosing to disable your multimedia from automatically starting will aide in helping your page to load quickier.

Moderation is key when incorporating images and/or multimedia on your web page(s). Using too many images, videos, and music not only reduces the speed in which your web page(s) load, they can also distract the user's attention away from the main content of your page. It is very important to keep in mind the content of your web page/web site when you are trying to decide what type of graphics to use. The use of images and multimedia is designed to add to your content not take away from it.
