Tear Down UGLY SIGNS

You already know that snipe signs or bandit signs (street spam, highway spam, etc.) are ugly, reduce property values, and degrade communities.

What you may not know is that they are illegal,
ARE FREE to TAKE AS MANY AS YOU WANT TO,
distract drivers,
fly into traffic during high wind,
and waste taxpayer dollars for the communities where there is at least some code enforcement.

Also, when parts of these plastic signs (or the metal poles) get in the storm sewers they later get into sensitive aquatic environments
or clog the pipes.....and cause YOUR ROADS to flood, which might damage YOUR VEHICLE someday.

There need to be more volunteers nationwide to tear the crap down from utility poles or pull out of ground.

To increase the numbers of collectors please SPREAD THE WORD that there is some value to collected signs:

EXAMPLE #1: keep a FREE sign or two in your vehicle's trunk above the spare tire. That way when you (or someone you know)
has to change a tire you don't have to kneel on sharp stones or wet grass, etc.
Get some signs for all the cars, trucks, and SUVs of your friends & family.

EXAMPLE #2: use them for HURRICANE SHUTTERS ..... or to protect windows from breaking in other parts of the US,
Canada, and world that have windstorms. Plywood or metal is better, but so few homes have those already.
Apparently those materials are out of the household budget for millions of Americans.
Some FREE SIGNS secured together with tape, etc. can help protect the medium-sized and
smaller windows around your house, such as the bathroom windows.

The National Hurricane Center has good advice, at least dealing with plywood and with plastic bonded to glass: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/HAW2/english/retrofit/shutters.shtml

EXAMPLE #3: use them in the garage as floor mats....or underneath metal shelving that might rust, car batteries, etc.

img

EXAMPLE #4: protect your swimming pool pump, etc. from the rain or sun using the signs that are blank on one side.

img

EXAMPLE #5: use signs (that you relocate to your property) as target practice for bullets, BBs, or arrows.

Feeling angry or ticked off one day? Tear down a few signs, shred them, and throw them away. You'll feel better.

BTW, these corrugated plastic signs aka corriboard signs aka Coroplast signs basically can NOT be recycled.
Once these advertisers who don't care about your community keep seeing that their illegal signs don't stay up for long
then they will stop putting their crap everywhere. Then sooner they come down....the fewer we will all see.

America put men on the moon but somehow we have done next to nothing about ridding our communities of the ugly signs,
even though the solution is pretty simple.

Tell everyone they should take the illegal signs down and throw them away or use them at home,
because the plastic signs have some value to the volunteer.

We don't even have a phrase to describe them that is used by a majority of the people. I think that is the case for Canada, Australia, and Europe too.

We call them street spam .... snipe signs .... highway spam .... bandit signs .... flyposting .... cheap-ass utility pole advertising .... or "vertical litter."
I wish all of the world (including those collectors who call themselves sharks) could use one phrase, such as crap signs.

Finally, regarding one subset of these signs: Please help get rid of the political signs as soon as the election is decided.
You'll feel better living in a world with less crap all around.
