Cookbooks are a great gift for Christmas or other holidays but there are so many cookbooks available that is helpful to have a list of the best cookbooks from the past year. At the very least, it helps to have some guidelines for selecting a book.
It is helpful to match the level of the cookbook to the skill level of the cook. Select cookbooks that provide a great deal of explanation and photographs for the beginning cook. Also, the recipes should not have too many ingredients or ingredients that are difficult to find. If they have a particular appliance, such as a crock pot, you might give them a cookbook that features that appliance.
There is a much broader options for the more experienced cook. You might select a cookbook from well respected celebrity chefs, such as Mario Batali, Bobby Flay, or Rick Bayless to name a few. Also, a cookbook that explores a special topic in depth is a great choice for the experienced cook. Currently, charcuterie is popular and there are several good books that explain how to make and cure your own sausage.
