Different Safari Parks in Tanzania and When to Visit Them

Tanzania can certainly assert to be the domicile of “Safari” since the word is Kiswahili for “journey” and there is no superior place to relish the inspiring wildlife experience than Tanzania.

The game sighting experiences are extensively considered as the best in Africa. And Tanzania has been the destination to witness apparently never-ending herds of wildebeest & zebras trekking over the plains on their annual immigration, pursued by the predators; cheetah, lion and hyena.

There’re three major safari provinces in Tanzania:

  • The famous Northern Circuit, which comprises Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and its neighbor the Serengeti National Park all packed with wildlife. A Tanzania wild safari in the northern course will also offer you the chance to tour the Olduvai, popularly known as “The Cradle of Mankind”, where residues of one of the ancient humans were found.
  • The southern circuit parks are not much visited and more isolated, but equally alluring for a wildlife safari, particularly if you like to escape from the crowds. The parks comprise aadani National Park, Ruaha National Park, Selous Game Reserve, Udzungwa Mountains National Park and Mikumi National Park.
  • The Western Circuits’ most renowned parks are Mahale Mountains National Park, Katavi National Park and Gombe Stream National Park.

The best time to trip Tanzania’s National Parks:

The arid season from the month of June to November is said to be the most ideal time to trip any national parks in southern and northern Tanzania. This is when wildlife sighting is at its best as the creature hordes around the rivers and water holes. This is also the period when most numbers of tourist influx, so anticipate it to be extremely busy and be conscious that lodge and hotels gets booked up well in advance.

If you wish to explore the annual wildebeest migration in Ngorongoro and Serengeti the most suitable time to catch it is from January to April when the zebras and wildebeests have their young. This is also an excellent time to witness the predators such as leopard, cheetah, lion and hunting dogs.

The rainy season is usually from March to May in the northern circuit and from Nov to Dec in the southern and west circuit. Throughout this period the roadways get worse and some turn out to be impassable. Ruaha and Selous national parks are generally closed during March & April. With the large amount of water and immense dimension of Tanzania’s parks, the wild animals are more spread out; this signifies longer distance of traveling to witness the wildlife.
