Lingering Injury for Lin
There’s bad news coming out of Houston these days. This off-season the
Rockets traded for Jeremy Lin and when they got him he was expected to be the
franchise player they had lacked since Yao Ming left or possibly since Tracy
McGrady. The latter is arguable in retrospect but at the time McGrady was a
superstar and Yao was the biggest player, literally and figuratively, of the
decade for the Rockets. Now Lin was supposed to follow in their footsteps and
take it a step further but unfortunately for fantasy basketball owners the news
is that he still hasn’t recovered from his knee surgery.
The knee injury that ended Lin’s season prematurely was never expected
to be a huge deal and maybe that’s because the Knicks never let people know
just how serious it was. But here we are three weeks away from the start of the
season and Lin claims that he’s still not 100% yet. Now injuries are just a way
of life for basketball players. Everyone gets them and everyone has to deal
with them in their own way. What’s really bad about this is that the Rockets
may have invested their future in a player that could have a chronic injury.
It’s early to say that but it’s not too early to say that Lin, the Rockets, and
possibly the Knicks all knew what was going on.
We’re trying not to overreact to what could just be a minor injury for
Lin right now. However it’s hard for fantasy basketball owners to really buy
into Lin right now. He’s going to miss most or all of the preseason and what
few games he actually plays in he’ll be limited. This is not good for a team
that needs to build chemistry immediately to compete in the uber-tough western
conference. Fantasy basketball owners beware of team the Rockets right now.
