How Often Should You Change Your Synthetic Oil?

For decades auto owners have pondered such eternal questions as, "What is that noise coming from my motor?" One of the most elusive parts of car information, however, has been how often one should change their oil? Every 3,000 miles? 5,000 miles? 9,000 miles? Even though there may not be a standard answer to this timeless inquiry, consensus out of auto enthusiasts, talk show hosts, car magazines, and dealers estimate the ideal time to be around 5,000 miles, give or choose the type and age of the automobile.

Additionally, an equally daunting question for some has become the debate over whether to use synthetic motor oil. Believe it or not, once upon a time such liquids were not readily available to consumers or race car drivers. Then something spectacular happened in the 1970s - no, not disco - the production of synthetic motor oil. Mobil 1 and Amsoil started marketing the stuff like gangbusters and in the decades that followed several others joined the bandwagon. One of the advantages to synthetic, advocates chime, is that unlike any ordinary petroleum, synthetic won't build up deposits within an engine, thus extending the life of your car.

It should also be noted that although the label may say "synthetic," artificial oil does contain several natural ingredients. With the debut of the miracle petroleum driving, fans and those who merely needed to get from point A to point B had a way to prolong the life of their pride in pleasure or rust bucket engine. When a person enters an automotive store now, they're inundated with a wealth of alternatives and innumerable varieties of oil, both artificial and regular. Now shopping for oil is as fun (or as complicated) as buying toothpaste and other handy essentials.
