AC-47D Information
During the Vietnam Conflict, many people served with honor. While the air age had progressed to modern jet aircraft, many older propeller driven aircraft were pulled out of mothballs to serve once again. Many of these aircraft rolled off the production line during WWII and shortly thereafter. One of those aircraft was the venerable vintage aircraft that served so well in so many roles for many years and was resurrected to fight another war with the addition of a few pieces of hardware and the brave souls who flew them into harms way. The Douglas C-47 was given three potent 7.62, six-barreled gatling guns, a box full of magnesium flares, a bunch of cans of ammo, a gunsight and reclassified as the AC-47D (or the short-lived FC-47 designation). From the first shot fired in combat in 1965 until the last by U.S. Air Force crews in December 1969, they saved many lives.
