How Text Messaging Has Changed Our Lives.

Homepage My Day In History IT Research New Technologies

Today, text messaging as well as instant messaging have made so many lives run more smoothly, and made them easier. There are many programs which have text and instant messaging available to users such as Yahoo, Facebook, Meebo, Windows Live, and cell phones like Blackberry’s, or I-Phones. As well, these programs are usually simple to use and because of this is the functions of text messaging and instant messaging allow us to communicate our messages, keep in contact with people who are far away, or discover new people and friends much faster and more efficiently. Since text and instant messaging is such a huge advantage, there are many people who use it to their advantage for the better good, or use it dishonestly and take advantage of it which negatively affects people.

For example, the use of text and instant messaging allows us to send messages to each other, rather than having to talk by phone or talking in person which is good in areas which are quiet, like a library or an important meeting. This can be a good thing in setting such as an online course or business, which people can be at home and participate in work. Yet although this is good in some areas, it is not very good in others. For instance, in a classroom, where a test is being written. Students can easily pull out there cell phones and text there friends the answers for the questions without being heard or seen by the teacher. Although this is good for the students, it is not going to help them in the long run when they can’t cheat.

Another example is that you can send files through text and instant messaging which you can share photos, music or other forms of media. This is excellent for keeping in touch with other people, and showing them how you are doing in forms of visuals, yet again there is always a con. The major one are the hackers, which can send viruses in attachments similar to media files and when opened, it spreads the virus into your computer which could do serious damage to your computer, cell phone and even friends who may now be at risk of obtaining it.

Lastly, the thing which most people like about texting is that messages can be given much more quickly and as well being more brief and to the point. Many people say that they text because it saves time for having to actually talk to somebody and that the conversation will last longer and be more irrevelant than the text messaging. Today, people like sending messages and getting answers quickly and text or instant messaging allows that. It has even gotten faster now with the new computer lingo, which nearly every cellphone or computer user has adapted to. This lingo is used to shorten commonly used phrases. For instance, to say that you are laughing, you would say "lol" or if you were saying goodbye, you could say "ttyl" which means talk to you later. Although this is fast and effcient, this has affect the community significantly in matters or proper language. People are so used to the computer lingo that they are actually using these terms when talking or writing.

In conclusion, text messaging in my opinion has strongly changed the world today. It has allowed humans to do many things that are convinient such as sending messages without talking, sending messages faster and keeping in contact with other people in a creative way. Yet, it has also allowed people to manipulate it's power and can cause hazards to themselevs like cheating or using informal language as well as "screw over" other people by destroying their phones or computer with viruses. There is nothing we could do to make it better, because with everything, there is always a price to pay.
