The Process of Snow Goose Hunting

Right now, snow goose hunting is a very famous sport and encourages by maximum states. If you are a regular hunter, then this might have got your attention. Here are a few tips of hunting snow geese.

Locating the Birds: the hunters have to know the particular fields where the birds come to feed. Agricultural lands with crops or any water body with fish are the most common places where they are found during the seasons. Please get the land owner’s permission if you are hunting on private lands because otherwise it will be considered as trespassing.

Lots of Decoys: hunting snow geese is a tedious job. They always travel in huge flocks and to hunt them you need to stimulate the flocks. Stimulating the flocks need about hundreds or even thousands of decoys. Decoys made of shell or silhouette can be used but the white rag decoys are vastly used because they come cheaper. Make sure the decoys look as if the birds are feeding or resting and do place a few decoys near a water body if available.

Hide yourself: it is important that the snow geese see only the decoys while looking down to the ground. Dress yourself in white or in the color of the ground. Avoid bringing dogs and park the cars about half miles away.

Hold fire: it is very tempting to shoot as soon as you see a flock above your spread of decoys but do not make that mistake. Hold your fire till the birds land because it gives you more opportunities to hunt. The birds will settle among the decoys and then realize that those are not goose. They will take flight immediately. This is the right time for you to shoot because the birds are closer and within your shooting range.
