A Treasure Box of Music

Music is a powerful and useful tool in delivering a message.  Promoters in the broadcasting industry finally understood its power and used music for their marketing endeavours.  In films, telly and commercials, music has been added. It gives life to them and helps in delivering the message a movie or an advertisement is supposed to convey. Music has the ability to arouse feelings or emotions. This is why it helps us understand the plot of a film or the main idea behind the making of a particular advertisement. Soon enough, demand for popular recording artists and their music rose. With this increase in demand is the increase of the cost for compensating music composers. Broadcasting companies found it cost inefficient to compensate music composers every time they create music for any kind of endorsement. Because of this, a realization of a cost-prohibitive endorsement to advertise music of any kind took place. This is the time when the first production music library was born.

A production music library works mainly to provide media producers with a pre-recorded collection of music to be used in virtually any type of media such as television, films and commercials. However, since music was readily available, music composers were worried that their music might get duplicated or stolen. Budding music composers were copying other’s music and were presenting under their names. Originality and authenticity of music was at stake. This created a chaos in the musical industry. Good thing they created musical licensing. It did not only preserve old classical music; it also preserved the work of new talent, which was often stolen by fraudulent artists. Media producers were required to license the music that they were going to use to protect the welfare of their musical composers. Media producers licensed chosen music conveniently in a one-stop shop. With just a phone call or an email, they were able to license the Master and Publishing rights of a music using preset rate cards.

Today, with the advancing technology, consumer experience has evolved to just ‘search and download’.  This eliminates the frustration brought about by the previous tedious way of finding a good music. This all started on the 23rd of October of 2001. A small 5-gigabyte computer with a touch wheel that allows you to play over 1000 songs was invented. This device is none other than iPod. The invention of this gadget totally changed everything about the traditional production music library.  This became the dawn of online music libraries.

The music library industry was able to keep up with the latest trends in technology through online music libraries. Music is now available right at your fingertips (iPod) and at the click of a button (Internet). Media companies have buried the CD days down since fresh music is available anytime and anywhere. Even the searching feature of these online libraries became better. Information about each music are all available in each corresponding track such as the description, tempo, instruments and genre. Because of this keying in just keywords optimizes the search. The future of the music industry is totally unpredictable.
